When you say "Old studio" do you mean Studio 6A? Currently the set is being used for "Doctor OZ" If you mean the burbank one then great. That studio went before it's time.
I mean the Burbank one, the new one, the one built for his Tonight Show gig. As for dismantling, they may have have dismantled the sets, but not the actual studio! That wouldn't be very efficient! Then again...this is NBC.
The budget for the Tonight Show with Conan included the price tag of the construction of the new studio, which was included in the books for five years. Anyway, I don't think going with FOX will be a good move. They have zero tolerance for low or even average ratings for long periods of time, and are known to pull the plug without mercy. The situation with the affiliates is also more unstable then with nbcu(nt*). *Yes, still pissed...
The conan situation would be different. Fox has been trying to pull him over since 2002 or so. Plus, he's in good with the higher ups at fox than he ever was with the higher ups at NBC. I mean, Zucker had him arrested in college. Not really, as all but a select handful are contractually obligated to carry an 11pm late night network show if Fox puts one on. They may not like the idea at first, but it's a case of "too bad for them" really.
Apparently my point just doesn't seem to compute. Who is he a saint for except for all the people profiting from the paycheck he's not getting. The ticket prices are expensive; they didn't exactly drop because he's working pro bono, so someone else is getting the extra money that would have gone to him. And it's not exactly the audience. While his motivation for doing so may have been in good spirit, the actual repercussions of his good deed isn't benefiting anyone except some fat cat behind the scenes. If his decision actually resulted in cheaper ticket prices, I'd agree with the saintly title.
And the few that don't put Conan on will probably be hearing from their viewers demanding to know why they can't watch Conan. So sooner rather than later, he'll be on every Fox station.
Actually, that's not that unusual. Networks and production companies use each other's stages all the time. Not every studio has the facilities needed for every production. TNG's Western episode ("A Fistful of Datas"), for example, was filmed at Warner Bros. because they have a Western backlot. Many outdoor scenes set in New York City are filmed by other companies at Paramount, because they have a New York City set on their backlot. Etc. I suspect that after the debacle with NBC, Conan and his team are making sure that any potential contract with FOX includes a guarantee of a certain minimum commitment to the show, and a penalty for violation that makes it more expensive for them to cancel him than to keep him on the air if his ratings are struggling in the first year or two. Surely they have to be thinking about such things after what happened at NBC. Also, with how long FOX has wanted to compete with NBC and CBS in the late night arena, and utterly failed to do so, I imagine they're going to be more tolerant of the time needed to build an audience for a late night show than they would be in their primetime lineup. Also, keep in mind that this tour does have significant benefits for him. By all accounts, he's close to reaching a deal with FOX and will likely be launching a late night show as early as this fall. The American television viewing public has a notoriously short attention span, and many are likely not even thinking about Conan any more at this point. Doing a tour like this helps keep him and his name before the public and helps keep his popularity up. So it's not like he's doing the tour just as a public service.
Christ almighty. It's not that I didn't "compute" your point, I DISAGREE with your point. There's also the possibility being that tickets would have been MORE expensive. In New York tickets can cost anywhere from 60 to 100 bucks on average, and those aren't even the REALLY good seats.

Yeah, and NBC tried their best to keep the cameras either on the singer or very, very wide shots when having Slash in the picture. Doing their darnedest to keep it out of sight.
They even had a camera guy "accidentally" walk in front of the camera doing slash's close up at one point.
