O'Brien out, Leno back in?

So Conan's new show will go up directly against other cable heavyweights the Daily Show and Colbert Report?

Good luck cracking that egg.

Conan was going to have to fight that battle no matter what, unless Fox could have put him on at 10...his natural audience would intersect those shows no matter where he was on...my hope is that TBS will do a great job of making Conan's content available online and will take those views into account when marking the show's success.

And there seems to be some degree of cameraderie between Conan, Stewart and Colbert, if the cross-show skits from the writer's strike are any indication...but then, they weren't in direct competition with each other back then either...

Conan at 11!!!!!!!!!!! and on cable at that (less ratings pressure!
KICKASS!!!

TBS is a strange as hell choice, but whatever, i'll take it as long as the Conan crew has the freedom to whatever they want.

He joins the renegade late night hosts(Colbert and Stewart) that cater to younger audiences.

Only difference is that Conan isn't the medium where young people get news and politics fix.

He's a late night host.

TBS is still around? :p

I haven't watched anything on that network in years. I blame digital cable, which allows you to not even stop on channels, but skip over them.

I imagine Fox didn't work out because 10 year old Seinfeld shows will probably bring in better ratings than Conan. Still... man, seems like a huge step down.

And a late night host who retains ownership of anything he unleashes on his TBS show. He gets to bring everything with him should he land back on the broadcast networks in a few years, which had to have played a significant role in the negotiations with TBS; Letterman and Leno ( at the thought of Conan going back to NBC) aren't going to be around forever.

The more I think about it, the more TBS doesn't sound like a :wtf: decision like it did initially when the news was announced. 10 or 12 years ago, if you had told anyone that Comedy Central would have latenight powerhouses of their own, no one would have believed you. If you had told me that Monday Night Football would be on a cable network and not on broadcast ABC, I'd wonder where I could get some of what you were smoking.

I wonder if Conan will be able to bring some of his trademark sketches with him to the new show such as "In the Year 2(3?)000" and the Masturbating Bear.

I wonder if Conan will continue with a "traditional" late night show format? You know, opening monologue, house band, a skit, two celebrity interviews, close with a musical guest...or if he'll try to forge into new ground and do something different? I would think that he'd keep the same band he's had for years...and has anyone heard if Andy Richter is coming along too?

I think for the most part he's going to stick to the same routine, but I'd like to see him freshen it up a bit. I mean, The Jay Leno Show was essentially Jay's version of The Tonight Show but just on primetime, so he didn't really break new ground or do anything revolutionary there. However, Conan has a clean slate, and I'm assuming creative control, so it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Word on the opening night of his tour was that they had Triumph and the Masturbating Bear...who apparently turned into a Panda...and some other staples. So they seem to have the rights to use the stuff.
