Huh! I did not know that! So okay, that's a bad example then if you realized this while watching. But there are tons of other moments that serve just as well -- knowing "in real life" that these characters will be back next week cannot truly matter in serialized storytelling otherwise none of us would be here now. Character deaths are to me a way to generate easy drama and figure a lack of imagination (ultimate example: Trip)! Clearly the Pocket Books authors don't need to rely on that kind of a gimmick to make stories work.

However, Janeway's not just death but TORTURE by becoming the very thing she fought so hard and thought she won against was pretty f'in cool and tragic in my opinion, so I'm down with that story happening. But let's get her out of Q-land sooner or later, so we can see what she makes of this post-borg-caeliar-typhon pact kind of a universe!

Janeway belongs to Star Trek universe. Voyager without Janeway isn't Voyager anymore. Bring her back in the next novel if you really want to keep Voyager alive and if you really want to successfully selling Voyager books.
No more comments. No arguments. It's simply the truth.

No need to yell at me, I won't come back here to argue with you. You can't persuade me from the opposite.

BTW: It was a loss for Voyager too, to take Tuvok away from Voyager to Titan. You can't successfully continue and sell the Voyager novel series by replacing of popular main characters of the TV show by pale artificial characters created by the books. If you like or don't like Janeway, you have to face that fact.

Funny I thought there were 6 other people on that ship. I am sorry but Janeway is not Voyager nor is she the one who made voyager enjoyable. All the characters made voyager what it is. I watched the show and read the books for all the characters not just one person. I don't think her death diminished the series. The writers can create new stories with Chakotay at the helm. I think we will get great stories with him and others in charge. I think all the writers are talented enough to make Voyager work without Janeway.

Yes there are six other people, but there is only one Captain and one Kathryn Janeway. To a lot of fans, Voyager without Janeway and even Tuvok is not Voyager. We want her back, we want to read stories with her in them. That in no way diminishes your enjoyment of the other six characters, it does diminish our enjoyment of any Trek Book.

Where is the parity in that.

I'm with you on this one. IMO her death opens up a lot of new possibilities for the characters, especially Seven and Chakotay the two people closest to her. As for Tuvok, he's still getting plenty of stories on Titan.
As for calling the new characters cheap imitations, I can assure that that is not true for any of the series. If there is one thing the authors have always empressed me with, it is there ability to bring new characters into an existing cast in a way that is organic and true to the series. They have also never fallen for the easy way out, and simply replaced an exiting character with one who is just like them. Pretty much every time they have consistently been individuals with there own unique personality, and backstory.

And we want to read stories with her dead, and the rest of the crew coming to terms with her death while continuing to explore the DQ. So bringing her back very much diminishes our enjoyment of the books.

Where's the parity for us should she come back?

You've already had your turn, it's ours now. The thing is you've had plenty of stories, all pretty much "Next Generation." Next Generation gets considerable more books than Voyager. Our characters are used to fill out other ships or as cannon fodder. It's not fair, it's not right.

How can you ask for parity when you have everything in the first place?

I count 44 books in which Janeway is alive, and 1.5 where she's not.

Let's have 42 more Dead-Janeway books before she's brought back. THAT would then be parity.

Good news is there's another coming next year from Kirsten Beyer...can't wait! 41 more to go...

Ummm, where exactly have the Voyager characters been used as canon fodder? Sure Janeway was killed in a TNG story, but she was anything but canon fodder in the story.

I think the other characters should have a chance to shine.

They have had five years to shine, we want Janeway back.

And parity isn't 2 Voyager Books with a dead Janeway, against 60 odd books published with in the same time. That isn't parity, that's nothing.

So has Janeway. If anything she's played a bigger role in the franchise than most of the other Voyager characters, except maybe Tuvok.

I agree with JD, Janeway has enough moments in the limelight. We should let some of the characters who barely got anything (episodes or books) a chance to shine.

I don't get all this sudden return of the "Militant Janeway Fans" - isn't htis old news?

I don't think either side will convince the other (any more than they did in 2007 and 2008...) so either read the current books (w/o Janeway) or not, read the older books (w/Janeway) or not - just end the hyperbole :scream:

BTW, while the Janeway fans continue to voice their dissatisfaction over her death, I've yet to read one comment from them on her portrayal prior to that death i.e. from Nemesis onwards - she wasn't the Captain anymore than she is now... where were they then?

My favorite series is DS9. Right now, aboard the station as a member of the crew, DS9 does not feature Sisko, Jake, O'Brien, Keiko, Odo, Worf, Rom, or Garak - Garak, my favorite Trek character ever. Nor does it feature the first Dax, who is dead, or the second Dax, who is captain of another ship entirely.

My second favorite series is TNG. Right now, aboard the ship as a member of the crew, TNG does not feature Data, Riker, Troi, or Ro (not a regular, but definitely a favorite). Data is dead. Riker and Troi are on another ship. So is Ro.

My third favorite series is VOY. Right now, aboard the ship as a member of the crew, VOY does not feature Janeway, Tuvok, or Neelix. Janeway is dead. Tuvok is on another ship. On the other hand, it has added Barclay, a recurring character, to the regulars.

Please explain to me the lack of parity and fairness?

    And one more thing:

DS9's relaunch went 10 novels before Sisko returned. That didn't take very long in terms of years, but back then novels came at 2 per month, there were two main editors instead of one, and most of the other series now hadn't begun (Stargazer, Gorkon, Titan, Vanguard, Mirror/Myriad Universes). Things are a little more spread out now. DS9 recently was on the same story arc for 4 and a half years; the Destiny aftermath is taking 2 full years to develop, etc, so you have to be patient.

But I swear, if after 8 more Voyager books Janeway hasn't reappeared yet in some capacity I'll make up a "bring Janeway back" interpretive dance, perform it in my underwear, and post it on Youtube, just for you.

    Chill out. It'll happen.
