Your first indication the prequels would be bad?

Mr. Sin

Commander
For me, it was an article in Newsweek I think that stated that Jake Lloyd was the worst miscasting in film history (This was about a year before the film came out). Also around the same time there was a leaked audio clip of Jar-Jar from the underwater scene that didn't bode well for the film either.

When I learned they were going to make them. :vulcan:

More seriously, when I read that Anakin was to be a little kid instead a young man.

As soon as Jar Jar appeared.

Then it was confirmed when we saw a robot soldier say "Roger, Roger". Why are robots even talking to each other ?

The opening crawl when it said "taxation of trade routes is in dispute"...

You didn't ask that question in the first scene of the original Star Wars movie? C-3PO and R2-D2 were always talking to each other.

For me, it was when Darth Maul died. In all the trailers, I thought he was going to make Darth Vader look like a cream-puff. I thought he was the most bad-ass Sith Lord right up until the final moment.

I remember thinking, "No way did he just go out like that...no way..."

Other than that, I thought the prequels were really cool.

The moment when it was announced that the movies would be prequels instead of sequels was my first inkling. Not that the prequels are entirely horrible(just mostly).

I loath the very concept of a prequel. We rarely get a sequel that surpasses the original. We NEVER get a prequel that surpasses the original.

Unless you're talking Shakespeare, that is the only exception I can think of.

Although I do like the prequels the political problems are a boring plot device for the movies.

Star Wars movies were supposed to pay homage to the swash-buckling action and adventure movies of the 30s and 40s and were never meant to pay homage to Sunday morning political debates and analysis from C-Span! :rommie:

The 60 Minutes segment in March of 1999.

I actually told myself that the voice of Jar Jar must've just been a temporary one as it sounded just too silly.
I didn't hate him as much as many others did though once I saw the movie.

But in the theater the first 10 minutes of Episode I just felt off. Edited weirdly and the whole prequel trilogy felt like it was filled with first takes.

Lucas' writing handled that.

I didn't think the last two were that bad. Excluding of course, Jar Jar, and Anakin and Padme's love dialog. Episode one was really the only bad one and that's only because I felt is was a knock-off of Episode 4. And I agree with everybody who was disapointed with Maul. After such a build-up to get us to go see him, he only had two lines in the entire movie.

I often wonder that to, why does the OT get a pass for this and the PT doesn't? Bah.

Either way, I enjoyed the movies and didn't have such an issue with Jar Jar the rest of the world did. I did have an issue, however, about Anakin being a whiny bitch, and wondered why Obi-Wan didn't bitch slap him.

Hey...the OT even had a droid being tortured by having hot irons applied to the soles of its...erm...feet.

I was pretty hyped and whilst I still don't think that the prequels are that bad, I remember seeing Yoda from TPM trailer and thinking "has nobody realised that that looks nothing like Yoda?"
