Gears of War 3 Announced

I saw this coming :p

I'll probably take a pass on this though. It was fun when I had roommates living with me and we could play together. I never enjoyed the xbox live experience though

I've never played a single minute of the two existing GoW games online, just played the solo missions. I'll be picking up GoW3 solely for the SP campaign.

Yeah I knew the announcement would be Gears 3 but I was surprised that they wouldn't do it at E3 in June as they have done in the past.

Funny how M$ blew it and pre-announced it, guess they didn't get the memo Cliffy B got bumped to Monday on Jimmy Fallon.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that they are waiting another whole year to release it, I was really thinking and hoping it would stay on its 2 year schedule which would make it early November.

I kinda wish now they did wait until E3 because it be a tad bit less of a wait.

Technically it's only 6 more months.

What is up with all of this quality games being released in the Spring? Not that I'm complaining...

I'm sure there'll be plenty of games to keep us occupied between now and then. The time will fly by.

How do you figure?

We are in April 2010 (At least where I am) the game won't come out til April 2011, that's a year where I come from.

I think he means it's only 6 more months that we have to wait, than we would if it was coming out in November.

I've only played the first one (PC) and enjoyed it. Maybe one day, I'll get around to getting the appropriate hardware to try the second and this one:)

Ahhh well true I suppose :p but still....

I read somewhere Cliffy and Crew said "if there were a Gears 3" the game would be ready by November, so that means it will just be sitting there waiting for April to come, Which IMO SUX!!!

I'm willing to bet that that was a bit of an optimistic estimation. I highly doubt they'd keep a completed game under lock and key for 6 months. Gears is an established franchise, with an established fanbase, so they can't be too afraid of release date competition. In fact, given that there are a number of "big name" games that are scheduled for a Q2 2011 release, they'd probably face less competition in Q4 this year.

I agree with it having an established fan base and all but from my understanding it wasn't Epic's choice it was M$'s.
they don't want it overshadowing Halo: Reach and Natal.

They also don't want the holiday season too crowded

I personally don't see what the big deal is, if you want something you will buy it, sure there are cases where folks have to buy one or the other but M$ doesn't care about our wallets, they have proven that time and time again.

I suppose that's a fair point, although I won't be buying either Natal (gimmicky, and doesn't impress me in the slightest), or Reach (never really been a big Halo fan).

I'm not entirely sure what big releases we're supposed to be getting in Q4, aside from Fallout: New Vegas, and the aforementioned Natal and Reach. Wheras in early 2011 they'd probably have to contend with Killzone 3, Resistance 3, and Dead Space 2, off the top of my head. So if they want to avoid a cluttered release schedule, they'd be better off either taking the risk and releasing it in Q4 this year, or in Q1 of 2011.

I suppose. I mean, personally, I have enough disposable income to be able to pick up whatever I want most of the time, but I do know a few people who have to make choices between one or the other.

Oh you got much more than Halo: Reach and Natal coming out Q4.
Just to name a few

Mafia II 8/24/2010
Dead Rising 2 8/31/2010
LA Noire 9/1/2010
Brink 9/7/2010
Medal of Honor 9/30/2010
True Crime 9/21/2010
FEAR 3 10/1/2010
Ghost Recon Future Soldier 10/1/2010
Portal 2 10/26/2010
Fable III 11/1/2010

There is also a ton of TBA titles as well, let alone all the unannounced Natal Titles.

I too have no issue picking them up as a matter of fact, not only will I be picking up Halo:reach and natal I'll be getting everything on that list except Fable III

Yeah, there is an impressive list of games coming out this winter for the 360. I'm personally excited about FEAR 3 and Future Soldier :D

I saw the trailer for Future Soldier and I was a bit disappointed. I think they're taking it a little too sci-fi for me. I really enjoyed the two GRAW games.

As for Gears, loved the first one, and got a lot of my mileage out of it online as well. The second one was pretty good, but the matchmaking was really broken... I don't know if they ever fixed it, so I ended up not getting much beyond the single player out of it.

I think it looks interesting. Having said that, I've decided I'll be waiting for a (possible) demo before I decide whether to buy or rent, though.
