Well I still love the new series a few days on.

I really like the music and titles, they remind of the the old titles, I was never that keen on the new ones.

Please stop going on about how young Matt Smith is, he is 28 not a child.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm just an ageing fart who would like to see a return to an older doctor. Despite that bias on my part, I thought Matt Smith did a brilliant job and I think he will be a terrific doctor.

Gotta say I'm surprised with all the talk of timelines and what-not, no one has pointed out that on Rory's nurse badge, it says "Issued on: 30/11/1990".

That one just has to be a mistake, though; there were no videophones in 1990.

Or Rory has been a nurse since he was 12. With the current state of the NHS, thats not too unbelievable.

Also another thing that I noticed was that when the Doctor snaps his fingers to open the TARDIS doors...or while the Tardis was regenerating as well there is a shot I think when the Doctor is inside the house of the Tardis key glowing in his hand I wonder if it imprinted the lock with his DNA so that he can now open the doors whenever he wants by just snapping his fingers.

He could already do that back at the Library, he just never knew to try until River Song told him about it.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Oh right I forgot that River had told him that...I was just wondering why that scene with the glowing key in his hand was framed like it was though.

I took it to mean that the TARDIS was "done" (ready).

Isn't it a sort of reference back to the first year story about Rose's dad?

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Sure. The TARDIS key also glowed and got hot to tell Rose the TARDIS had landed in "Aliens of London." After those two episodes, I don't think they used the keys' link to the ship much more. Well, maybe when Ten clicked it to chirp the doors locked in "End of Time."

Maybe Doogie Howser was his mentor.

The incidental theme used for the Doctor is interesting. IIRC, it starts as a slow four chord progression with a single repeating melody over the top. This in itself has a very cool 'epic saga' quality to it (it's actually an old trick you see in alot of movie trailers. The Abrams Star Trek trailers are a good example. You have this melody which repeats while the chords shift underneath, changing the context of the melody with each chord change). The drums then kick in to drive it into a higher gear. Then, near the end, this is all joined by a 2nd melody over the top of the first which is completely bonkers. It sounds all zany and madcap, though it's still strictly ordered and in sequence.

I'm not sure if this applies to all the Star Trek trailers, but the last one, at least, used the track "War Begins" from the Children of Dune soundtrack.

No. The track he is referring to is Freedom Fighters by Two Steps From Hell used in the final trailer for the movie. The violin strings are similar.

The Demons & Angel soundtrack is uninspired, unlike Freedom Fighters or the Eleventh Doctor's Theme. I'm big on music -- and I know it when I hear it. I agree with Pike 100%.

^ So I was incorrect in identifying the new Doctor Theme's as being similar to the cue from "Angels and Demons"? I quite enjoyed the score from the movie.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Ah, you're right. War Begins was used in Star Trek trailer 2, not 3.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew they used it on at least one of the trailers.

Ahh a kindred soul. I am a guitarist myself and a few years ago used to play in a band which got a few pub gigs here and there around Melbourne. Music has always been a large part of my life, so I tend to notice a lot of musical details.

And yeah, it may be an old trick, but it sure is a great one. Love those epic sounding themes! :)

For those that are interested, this past Sunday I talked with the good folks at Hour 42 blogtalk radio about the WonderCon debut of "The Eleventh Hour." You can download the podcast of the live show plus the overtime DW discussion here.

Hm. Rory's pass issue date. Number plates implying it's 2005. And a big crack in the universe... when all cracks are supposed to be sealed...

Alternate universe. And we'll find Amy's parents somewhere else.

Maybe? I dunno. But it's either food for thought, or, as is very much more than likely, we are overthinking it.

He said it was a crack in "Space" he didn't say it was a crack in time or time and space or universes. I think it was just like a wormhole, a spatial wormhole, not a temporal one.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

I reuploaded a video I found of "Unreleased music"

The Doctor's theme

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7j915bZPIQ

That should tide us over till the actual soundtrack is released.

Good job. I was looking around this morning for an example of it but couldn't find it. I can't listen to it now as I am at work, but hopefully this is the one I was talking about above.

You'd probably be wrong since, you know, it's clearly the setup for the metaplot arc of the season. And one that Prisoner Zero certainly implied was the Doctor's fault. Nevermind that, when describing it, the Doctor goes on about two points in space and time pressing against each other as he fondled it. Hell, his first comment after reading the sonic screwdriver's result of it is "wibbly wobbly timey wimey."
