The Opening Credits...?

I dont know if a thread already exists on this topic, i know we have discussed it somewhat before now anyway, but i was wondering...

What will Moffat and the visual effects guys (The Mill) put together for Matt Smiths Doctor's opening credits? What will Murray Gold give us in the way of opening theme? Will Moffat inject a bit of 70s/80s retro stuff in there, or keep it all new and up to date with current sci fi shows out there? Will we get a space scene montage like McCoys or just a vortex like many others? Will we here electro pop style music in the theme? and the ultiamte question, the big one, the biggest question of all, one so big that Deep Thought may not be able to calculate...

Will we finally ultimately see Matt Smiths face fade in and out?

For those not in the know, here are two vids of all the Doctors opening credits, not sure if they have included slight edited versions though.

Not the best quality or editing to be honest...

But, heres a better version...

^ Personally, ive always liked McCoys titles, i gew up with his Doctor, so maybe i have the electro-theme and extremely cool early CG graphics (especially for the BBC in the 80s:confused:) imprinted on my childhood brain. I just think theyre cool.

Heres a few fan made titles, these two are from the same guy.

Fan made titles. pretty good to be honest...

Same guy, better titles, but its nothing different to what RTD had, however i do like it.

I havnt seen any vids with Matt Smiths face fading in though, but ill post one up anyway, the best i have seen so far...

Personally i doubt we will see Matt Smiths face (even though it will be totally but slappingly cool:cool:) as it may a be a bit too much of a departure from what we already have. Even the premier of the Eleventh Hour had an edited version of Tennants titles, so no one really knows. Im guessing it wont be too different, but ultimately....

We wont know until 6:20pm tomorrow night. ;)

Just a little thread to get us all even more excited about tomorrows premier. Get the anticipation levels to an all time high. :techman:

^God i still hate that costume. Why couldn't they have gone with the long black coat from the early promo pics. Sorry OT.

I remember hearing that Smith's face would be in the openning and I hope not. Its too 70's, doesn't fit with today. But I guess we'll see in less than 24.

Ideally, it wouldn't just be a still cutout plopped into the center of the frame. It's more than possible to make a cool-looking version of the opening credits involving the actors, such as this American-Style fan-made opening sequence.

It's gonna be weird not to have the names flying at us, though. I still remember how weird it was when David Tennant took over and the shape of his name was all wrong. Too squat and triangular when I was used to a solid block of "Christopher Eccleston" punching me in the face.

I've been wondering this myself. I'm wondering if the new "Logo" will get a gander in the opening credits.

Well one of the producers said the TARDIS was going to have a much more treacherous ride through the vortex now, so maybe that means a few asteroids will be flying by like during McGann's opening?

Or maybe the TARDIS will just be bouncing along the walls of the vortex a lot more...

I like the face. Someone did a re-edit of "Time Crash" from the 5th Doctor's perspective and used the 5th Doctors opening only they added David Tennants face after Davison's...and it looked great.

The face could work, if done right.

I am more curious about the new music, etc.

well, we kinda figured, but will they use that new kick ass new vortex from the trailer? After all, it was purpously filmed for 3D. So, in hindsight, we will see a different vortex?

I like the one from the trailer a lot, its different yet still familiar. Not too keen on the event horizon though, i prefere it when you cant see the end and it just keeps on going rather than straight ahead.

Or will they use the same vortex as a standard time travel effect and alter it slightly? Afterall, thousands of kids know that vortex effect now, so would it make sense to change it that much?

Im all for using the trailer vortex though, its nifty.

Oh, yeah. Not to mention the giddy feeling as SIX names came flying at us in "Stolen Earth/Journey's End." God, that was so awesome. :D

That was, for me, one of the most exciting moments of the first five years, because it was so unexpected.

I'd like to see Moffat bring the Doctor's face back to the opening. If they're smart they'd figure out a way to include Karen Gillan, too.

At the end of the day, though, the only important thing is that the theme remains. And in fact I'm more interested in hearing the new arrangement than seeing the visuals. I liked the most recent version, and the one before it was terrific. I don't expect that the Derbyshire sounds will remain because it would make the arrangement sound too close to the RTD era one. I've never agreed with the assessment that the 2007 arrangement sounded like the Howell version, but maybe now's the time for such an homage to be done.

Shame it wasn't anyone I wanted to see.

No, I won't apologise.
