Did my friend die?

Do you ever freak out when someone you know goes MIA for a period of time?

It's only been 2 days since I saw my best friend, but in that time he has:

a) not replied to my text messages
b) not replied to a video I posted on his Facebook wall, and
c) not replied to the chain e-mail that a few of us have going to help us keep in touch

The last two don't necessarily surprised me, but it's weird that he's not replying to my texts, especially because they are hilarious and worthy of response.

He'll probably turn up tomorrow, but I still worry a bit. I mean, maybe he cracked his head open on the bathtub and died in his apartment. How would I know?

was he going to travel? is there any reason he would be at place for a long period of time with cell cut off.

Nope. He had to work yesterday and today, so he should just be at home. I saw him on Sunday. He lives about 10 minutes away. It's not the first time this has happened, but I still worry a little bit every time it does.

I blame the interwebs. It makes me think I should have constant contact with everyone I know at all times.

It looks to me like you should smoke a joint, mellow out, and relax. Stop being so morbid. Your friend could also be getting some strange. Have you thought about that?

I can't stand when people have this expectation of me. If you're seriously worried and this is out of character for him, make an excuse to stop by. Since he lives nearby that shouldn't be difficult.

I haven't heard from my BFF in more than a week now. Actually a few weeks. I know he's fine though. His mom would have called me if something had happened, haha.

Agreed.

I have this one friend who will BBM me on my work cell (after failing to reach me on my personal cell) with some sort of message. After about 2 min without a response, he'll send another message along the lines of "bro you there??", and then will actually get a little upset if there's no response. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but it's pretty effing annoying. :wtf:

Call again. Write again. Find them, make contact, whatever you have to do, do it.

If it is at the point that you are concerned, or asking yourself this question it's worth it to look like a fool and be too overprotective than to let it slide.

Trust me.

I know someone who adds '(S)' to the end of friend's names in her phonebook who are Slow repliers, to remind her not to panic if she doesn't hear back for days. Some people just read a text, think 'I'll reply to that', put the phone away then get on with life for days before remembering. It annoys me too, I'm a quick responder, but I've learnt not to panic :D

Since it's not the first time, there's probably nothing to worry about. But you could always send him a text that says, "I M WRRIED BOUT U. PLS ANSWR."

Then what are you doing here instead of stopping by his home? Bad friend! :p

More seriously: I never worry about things like that. If I don't get a reply, I just suppose they are busy or have forgot about it.

Or maybe you should use proper grammar and spelling.

I wish everyone I knew would adopt that system with me. I seem to know a lot of impatient people who want me to communicate on their time, not mine.

I do have a friend that does cause concern when he doesn't get in touch for a few days. He never says if he's going anywhere until he's there, but he also has a heart condition... add them both up and you have me worrying he's alright after a week of silence where I found out he'd been in hospital.

I have another friend whom I don't really worry about - he's massively obese, tries to push himself past his physical capabilities to prove he doesn't need to lose weight and heart problems run in the family. It's horrible to say, but the rate he's going, I don't expect him to hit 30.

I've trained people to not expect me to pick up the phone. In fact, I have a habit of ignoring the call and then calling them back a few minutes later. Gives me the upper hand in the conversation. :p

I do that, except for the remembering bit.

If I don't reply to a text as soon as I read it, chances are I never will.

This reminds me of an episode of a TV show I saw a long time ago (Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, something like that) where a man was tired of being in constant contact with everyone (family, job, friends) that he tried to remove all forms of communication from his life. This included a desk phone, cell phone, pager, fax machine, computer, and probably a few more I'm forgetting. I think he ended up being committed because everyone thought he was crazy, but he just wanted to have some time to himself and have some silence (everything made loud beeping noises).

What's absolutely hilarious to me is that this was made back in the 80s, and it seems to have come to pass! I really wish I could remember what show that was.

Roger, have you heard from him yet? If not, since he lives so close, go check on him.

I am a major worry wart. I worry all the time when i haven't heard from someone after i've called and left a message. I need to work on this too.

. Stop being so morbid. Your friend could also be getting some strange.

I have NO idea what that means!

That means, " doing the old in-out, in-out", "horizontal bop", "mattress mambo", etc.
