We may lose another celebrity :(

That just sucks, I didn't know he was so ill. :(

Hopper is a great actor. Blue Velvet is one of my favorite movies. His Frank Booth Character is one of the best bad guys ever. I also liked him in Easy Rider, Speed, Land of the Dead, and a ton of his other work. It was nice to see him in his smaller roles as well, such as in cool hand luke and True Grit.

It sucks, but death is a part of life. Before you know it, other actors dying will be Eastwood, Nicholson, Hackman, Freeman, Duvall, Redford... :(

Ugh. Boy did I ever hate that movie and character. More like most annoying villain ever. I wanted to throw my TV out the window every time his boringly over-the-top one-dimensional sadist character was onscreen. I don't blame him for that, though. It was a stupidly written character. He just acted the hell out of a character that was crap on paper. He was, however, definitely the highlight of "Easy Rider" for me and rocked in "Speed" (both of which were movies with terrific writing).

For the latter, he won a much deserved MTV Movie Award for best villain. I still remember his modest acceptance speech where he said something like, "Maybe someone just saw that the voting was for the movie "Speed" and decided to vote just because they liked the movie so much, not knowing who they were voting for." No, Dennis, you won that award because you were awesome. :)

Like all Lynch projects, not for everyone's taste I suppose.

I think Jack Nicholson was the highlight in Easy Rider. I love Hopper and Fonda, But Nicholson's boozing and UFO speech are just hilarious.

I have loved him in everything I've seen him in. I hope he recovers but have little optimism.

I suppose. I like everything else I've seen by Lynch so far, though ("Mulholland Drive" and "The Elephant Man"). It's a close call deciding who I loved more in "Easy Rider" between Hopper and Nicholson. They were both hilarious, but I think what made Hopper ultimately just a little more memorable and endearing to me was his overuse of the word "man". Glad he's survived long enough to see that star honour bestowed upon him. :)

There's no "may" about it. "Terminal", yeah?

My dad had prostate cancer but in his case they got it all. They detected it early (via a PSA blood test; then removed the whole prostate) and he's as good as cured. Unfortunately that is probably not possible in all cases, Hopper's may not have been detected until it was too late. :(

He'll always be King Koopa to me.

And the Deacon of the Deep.

Seriously, he could bring energy to otherwise thanklessly bad roles.

This may sound dumb, but I LOVED his performance in Waterworld.

Some people have objected to the use of the word may in the thread title. I not used it ebcause it's possible (albeit unlikely) that he could recover, but I also did it out of respect, and not to seem like I was putting him in some kind of dead pool.

Hope you understand.
