Did DS9 have the worst looking cast?

Last edited:
Well, most of the cast of DS9 would probably be called middle-aged in the last season, quite a few of them even in season 1.

Odo : could be cute, he just doesn't choose to be :guffaw:
Actually he can't. Odo's shapeshifting abilities were relatively poor compared to an average Founder, and he said lots of times on the show that he making a humanoid face was the most difficult thing for him - therefore the unfinished facial features.

Just another reason to love DS9

No yeoman's w/skirts up their asses
That's reason to dislike DS9
Well, there were, in Trials & Tribble-ations. ;)

Oh c'mon... who let you in here? :)

I don't think this show gets an appropriate amount of snaps for sexy uniforms done well. Jadzia and Kira's season six and seven uniforms were prime examples of how a sexy look could be pulled off without sacrificing utility. The fact that I could look at them and find them sexy while still buying into the idea that anybody would work in such a get-up is a major contributing factor to my liking of the female cast on DS9.

But the real sex appeal of the show was Weyoun. I don't understand how there's not more conversation about him. :)

Yes, this point always bugged me. For instance, in little green man in shapes into a dog, with perfect details (a real dog is filmed), in homefront he assumes the shape of a bird.
Why should These animals be easier to imitate than a human face ?

I can't speak on the attractiveness of the men, since I'm straight. I'll leave that to the ladies. However as to the women....

1.) Ezri Dax - gorgeous
2.) Kira Nerys - beautiful
3.) Jadzia Dax - beautiful
4.) Leeta - beautiful
5.) Keiko O'Brien - beautiful
6.) Kassidy Yates - beautiful
7.) Tora Ziyal - beautiful (when played by Melanie Smith - gorgeous)

IMO, DS9 seems to have quite a few good looking people.

Wait, is beautiful better, or gorgeous?

ENT is pretty much the only Trek that challenges DS9 in this regard, because even a little Linda Park goes a long way.

From my heterosexual perspective, TOS sure doesn't have much going for it in the main cast. One attractive woman (Nichols), one extremely boring blonde, and Majel Barrett. The dudes are all pretty good looking, though--in order, I'd probably place 'em Takei (presumably my Asian prediliction would transfer through the Homosexual Siege Perilous), Nimoy, Doohan, Shatner, Kelley, and Koenig.

Yeah. TOS super-mini skirts were also very implausible, especially when you see women going on away missions in them.

Eh, to each their own. He's too camp and smarmy for me to find sexy at all.

See, for me, that spells out James Bond. It's that cheesy, clearly fake, 'trying-to-hard' mentality that does it for me- on the show. (In real life... ya know, different story.)

No catsuits
No captains, w/shirts off
No yeoman's w/skirts up their asses ()
This is SO freaking true. If it were any more true, other things that are true would start complaining that this one thing is stealing all the true.
Which doesn't mean that there weren't people to drool after, but it felt a lot more natural and not as forced. (ENT was particularly bad in that regard, the decon scenes come to mind in particular. Not that I mind watching guys take off their shirts all the time, but it was a bit funny to see a show trying so hard to be 'sexy'.)
This, too. (Well, not the part about watching guys take off their shirts, but the rest :rommie:). I know I don't speak for everyone, but I find that active attempts to "be sexy" often have the opposite effect. I'm in the "Women in uniform are hot" camp. A cute girl in, say, a late DS9-era Starfleet uniform is FAR more attractive to me than the same girl would be in, say, a Seven-style catsuit.

And that ENT decon garbage was one of the most pathetic, sad things I've ever seen in a Trek show.

I agree with your general point here, but I'm not so sure on Kira's season 7 uniform. It was just a bit too... well, catsuit-ish. It wasn't quite on the same level as the actual catsuits worn by Seven or T'Pol (or the crazy outfits Troi wore on seasons 1-5 of TNG), but it was definitely borderline, I thought.

I do think what you are saying applies strongly to the late DS9/FC Starfleet uniform, though (one of the reasons it's my favorite one). On Jadzia, Ezri, and Kira (too bad her appearance in it was so brief!), it worked extremely well in a "functional yet sexy" way.

:cardie:

Oh dear. I'm afraid you've lost me here.

Unfortunately. That ep was great fun, but gha, those hideous "uniforms"...
Sorry she has short hair and no curves. The other negative point for her is she showed up late and made part of season seven slightly less appealing.
If by "slightly less appealing", you mean "more appealing by several orders of magnitude", then I agree! :bolian:

I'm with Kegg on this one: Ezri is the cutest character in Trek, ever. Beauty (or "hotness", or what have you) is of course in the eye of the beholder. Case in point: apparently you don't, but I generally like short hair on women. It depends on the person, but it can look incredibly sexy.

Which brings me around to answering the OP's question (at the very end of my post, naturally): no. Just the opposite, in fact: Ezri, as I said, is the best-looking Trek character to me. But if I had to choose a number 2, 3, and 4 to follow her, it'd be Kira, Leeta, and Jadzia (though I'm not entirely sure on the order within those three). There are some moderately attractive characters on some of the other shows, but no one can compete with the DS9 chicks. :D

Ezri Dax is easily the most attractive character in the Star Trek franchise so I find this post befuddling.

I was gonna write this until I saw someone else did.

That being said, this thread is pretty silly.

Kira : a well-preserved middle-aged women.
She's, like, 35 at the beginning!
I never thought 35 was considered "middle aged" I surely hope that's not the case...
However, she is a well-preserved middle aged woman now.
Yeah, she still looks good:cool:
I always thought that Kira(Visitor) is sexy:drool: She certainly had one of the best butts in Trek:techman:
And I always found Jadzia(Farrell) to be a very beautiful woman, not to mention Ezri.
So I dont personally have any negative opinions about the women of DS9.
Infact, I think all of the Trek shows have had pretty sexy women In overall, so there is not much to complain in that department:D

Star Trek has never had beautiful people in their casts. They have ridiculously boring looking normal people that don't stand out.

DS9 had the most interesting looking cast due to make up.

Again the use of normal is something I find rather perplexing.

Colm Meaney, say, looks normal. A lot of the Star Trek casts look like actors, who - for obvious reasons - tend to be more appealing than normal people.

Why should These animals be easier to imitate than a human face ?

Don't the novels say that the Founders implanted a psychological block against perfectly imitating a humanoid face, or some other inablity, into Odo's genetic makeup before they sent him out into the galaxy?

Gorgeous is better. :p

I'm just not understanding the OP's idea however. DS9 had the best looking cast, IMO, at least with the females. Like I said, I'll leave it to others to decide on the men.

TOS had Nichelle Nichols, Majel Barrett, and Grace Lee Whitney. Nichols was attractive. Whitney was attractive, at times. Barrett simply did not do it for me at all.

TNG had Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Denis Crosby. McFadden was beautiful. Sirtis was beautiful. Crosby was attractive.

DS9 had Nicole de Boer, Nana Visitor, and Terry Farrell. de Boer was gorgeous. Visitor was beautiful. Farrell was beautiful. And, damn near every recurring female character was beautiful.

VOY had Kate Mulgrew, Roxann Dawson, Jennifer Lien, and Jerry Ryan. Mulgrew was beautiful. Dawson was beautiful, at least when she wore her Klingon makeup. :p Lien was gorgeous. Ryan was beautiful.

ENT had Jolene Blalock and Linda Park. Blalock was beautiful, though she looked her best in a standard Starfleet uniform. Park was beautiful.

So, DS9 wins by simple numbers. They had more good looking women than any other series and I've now part way too much time into this.

I wish I had your eye for beauty Shran. I really do. The world would be a much better looking place. Kate Mulgrew, beautiful? "Handsome", at best.

1.) Ezri Dax - gorgeous
2.) Kira Nerys - beautiful
3.) Jadzia Dax - beautiful
4.) Leeta - beautiful
5.) Keiko O'Brien - beautiful
6.) Kassidy Yates - beautiful

With the exception of Keiko and Leeta I agree wholeheartedly with this list, although the difference between 'gorgeous' and 'beautiful' escapes me.

Keiko... I would downgrade to merely 'ok' since she does absolutely nothing for me.

Leeta however, I would upgrade to :techman::drool::luvlove: - words cannot describe.
