Did DS9 have the worst looking cast?

I don't mean to be shallow

Then your thread should have ended right there...

Just for fun though I'll play the game. First, you can't factor in Odo, Quark, Rom, Worf, Morn, and all the other characters in heavy latex since you can't really see the actors.

I see nothing wrong with the rest of the cast. Others have mentioned O'Brien as being ugly, well that's a matter of perspective. He has distinctive features and curly hair and doesn't look like a GQ model, but does that make him ugly? O'Brien is supposed to be the everyman; a husband and father, working with his hands and getting stuff done. Carey Grant or Clark Gable in their prime, or even George Clooney couldn't necessarily pull that off.
Well, I know a few women who find Worf attractive. I guess it depends on how one feels about the Klingon look, and the opinions are split on that one. I think that Cardassian makeup is attractive; Klingon, not so much, but Worf is not bad-looking for a Klingon, and Michael Dorn is very attractive IRL.

Odo is a shapeshifter who sucks at forming a humanoid face, so his unformed facial features are a part of his character. The Ferengis are, well, the Ferengis - not every alien race is going to look attractive according to human standards. To humans and some of the other alien races like the Bajorans, they may look like ugly little trolls, but Quark might be considered handsome among the Ferengis.

That leaves O'Brien. It's not like he's ugly, hideous or deformed, he's just an ordinary-looking guy. As Kirby said, he's supposed to be an everyman character, so Colm Meaney's look works for the character. It's refreshing to see someone on TV who looks like a normal guy, rather than a pretty boy or rugged square-jawed hunk.

If DS9 was about a bunch of genetically engineered people living in a Gattaca-like society, then it would make sense to have everyone look stereotypically pretty, like those Augments from ENT. But it's not.

which brings up another thing... Damar...most of the girls that hang out here think Casey is smokin...I don't know b/c I'm straight as an arrow and happily married at that.

Biggs has won more than his share, DS9 who's the hottest guy. There's one here (not dropping names) whom I'd bet would drop the clothing and hit the hay w/him in a NY minute.

So....there!

I dunno, Damar is sexy, but Dukat is sexier IMO... quite a few posters here feel the same, including some who feel bad admitting it because he's evil and all that :rommie: I know that he turned out to be quite a sex symbol while the show was on and had lots of very vocal female fans online, and that Ira Steven Behr even ranted about it in some of the interviews, which is rather silly IMO... There have always been many fictional villains, male and female, that people have lusted after, it's nothing new, and has nothing to do with how you'd feel about such people in real life.

I was going to make a case for at least a couple of them but it was too hard. They were definitely not picked based on looks first. There was some good looking guest stars.

Well, I would hope that actors were generally not picked on looks first on any of the Trek shows, since acting ability is far more important.

Although I'm sure that Ferengi, Klingon and Jem'Hadar actors were picked based on their height, as well...

DevilEyes, I agree with you on that. I've got all 7 seasons on DVD. If you watch the last disc in each season, which is the one with all the bonuses and special features, they have interviews with cast members. I've seen the ones who played Quark, Rom, Nog, Worf, Martok, Gowron, Dukat, Garak without their alien makeup and alien wardrobes. They're all perfect height and build for their characters. Like Chancellor Gowron. If Gowron is supposed to be a broad shoulders, big and strong looking guy then they got the perfect actor to play him. The guy who played him is broad shoulders, big and strong looking.

Did DS9 have the worst looking cast?
The simplest, easiest, most to-the-point answer to the title of this thread is NO. I didn't think they were any better or worse looking than the casts of the other Star Trek shows.

Funny, it's always the unexpected, ones that ended up being considered the sexiest.

In TOS at the time, it was said that Spok was considered especially sexy.

I've seen comments before where Gul Dukat was considered sexy.

I've seen comments (other sites) where people say something like, 'I know he's evil, but he is sexy!'

In fact I've read where people felt he was a evil/jerk/bastard and still admit they just had to like him.

What is it about this guy? How can he seduce so many people? lol

From another site;

I'm going to stop apologising for finding Gul Dukat, played by Marc Alaimo, hugely sexy. He's mean & moody, but every once in a while, he lets his soft side show just a bit. Broad shoulders, broad neck, broad eyebrows...what else could a girl ask for!

Hell of a character if you can be really rotten to the core, and still make people like you.

Mirror universe Dax? Hot

Yeah you are being very shallow OP. I am shocked you'd say anyone on TV in general is "bad looking"- that's a huge part of the business unfortunately. I just find it so offensive and mean when anyone judges a person's physical appearance. And I believe some of the characters in their make up are meant to be interesting - not necessarily attractive (like moogie).

Okay, is the OP frakkin' SERIOUS?

Picard is better looking than Sisko? :wtf:

Not in the universe I live in, bub.

Picard is a shriveled up old bald guy with a stick up his ass. Sisko is cool...and incredibly sexy by comparison.

And just for the record, Chakotay is BY FAR the best looking male on VOY. By a LONG, LONG way. Maybe you don't like the character...but there is no doubt that Robert Beltran is a handsome man.

Finally, I have no idea what 'normal looking' means. But whatever you think it is, it's apparently not. Because I see nothing whatever appealing about many Trek actors, outside of their acting abilities. And the only good looking actor on TNG is Marina Sirtus, who I can't stand personally and who is a terrible actress, but who is a good looking woman.

The rest of them range from 'meh' to 'butt ugly'.

I mean, as long as we're not getting shallow or anything.

Here is a short list of Trek actors I think are good looking:

Shatner (when he was young)
Nimoy (when he was young)

Marina Sirtus

Avery Brooks
Alexander Siddig
Casey Biggs
Cirroc Lofton (for the younger set, he's a nice looking guy)
Terry Ferrell
Nichole DeBoer
Nana Visitor

Robert Beltran
Robert Duncan McNeill (before he gained weight)
Kate Mulgrew
Roxann Dawson

Scott Bakula
Jolene Blalock

That's pretty much it. And in that group, DS9 does fine. :)

I can't speak on the attractiveness of the men, since I'm straight. I'll leave that to the ladies. However as to the women....

1.) Ezri Dax - gorgeous
2.) Kira Nerys - beautiful
3.) Jadzia Dax - beautiful
4.) Leeta - beautiful
5.) Keiko O'Brien - beautiful
6.) Kassidy Yates - beautiful
7.) Tora Ziyal - beautiful (when played by Melanie Smith - gorgeous)

IMO, DS9 seems to have quite a few good looking people.

Ezri Dax is easily the most attractive character in the Star Trek franchise so I find this post befuddling.

No 7 of 9 in your Voy segment?????
That's where the 'matter of taste' factor comes in. :) People are never going to agree on who's attractive and who's not (as the 'who's hotter, Picard or Sisko' debate in this thread shows). I'd say that Jeri Ryan has an amazing body, but a rather average face. I'd be more surprised by the lack of inclusion of Nichelle Nichols, Linda Park, Connor Trineer or Jennifer Lien, as far as main/regular characters go, I find Tim Russ very attractive with the Vulcan ears and eyebrows (strangely, not so much without them) and I'd disagree on Gates McFadden and Jonathan Frakes-before-he-got-fat, I think Brent Spiner was quite attractive (he wasn't that bad in Enteprise as Dr Soong, either) as is Michael Dorn IRL (the rest depends on how one feels about the Klingon makeup). For some reason I've never been attracted to either Patrick Stewart or Avery Brooks, but I can see that they can both be considered attractive. Though when it comes to TNG cast, Suzie Plakson, Michelle Forbes and the guy who played Roga Danar trump all the main characters.

Isn't it great how we all react to this thread with outrage: "How can you be so shallow? Looks aren't that important!" and then go "But anyway, you're wrong, A and B are really hot, and X is more attractive than Y." :guffaw:

Sorry she has short hair and no curves. The other negative point for her is she showed up late and made part of season seven slightly less appealing.

Well a question for girls here : who's hotter, quark or neelix ? :-D
That's easy. Quark. ;)

Now if you wanted to make it more difficult, it should be "Rom or Neelix". :)

Nagus wins both since Princess Bride > all.

Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead.
Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You've made your decision then?
Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Vizzini: Wait til I get going! Now, where was I?
Man in Black: Australia.
Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're just stalling now.
Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work.
Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!
Man in Black: Then make your choice.
Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be?
Vizzini: [Vizzini gestures up and away from the table. Roberts looks. Vizzini swaps the goblets]
Man in Black: What? Where? I don't see anything.
Vizzini: Well, I- I could have sworn I saw something. No matter.First, let's drink. Me from my glass, and you from yours.
Man in Black, Vizzini: [Vizzini and the Man in Black drink ]
Man in Black: You guessed wrong.
Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...
Vizzini: [Vizzini stops suddenly, his smile frozen on his face and falls to the right out of camera dead]
Buttercup: And to think, all that time it was your cup that was poisoned.
Man in Black: They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

She's still pretty (and engaging) imo, but it would be a bit pointless to argue on that :techman:

To go back to the initial subject of the thread, i strongly with dax and bashir being only "normal looking".

Sisko : i'm a straight guy and so won't judge his "hotness" but he looks like a classy and athletic (and "normal looking", whatever that means) man to me.
Kira : a well-preserved middle-aged women.
O'Brian : well, he kinda looks like a barfly, but he's not ugly.
Keiko (not really regular character) : quite pretty.
Bashir : quite a dandy
Jadzia :luvlove:
Quark, Rom : ugly looking aliens
Worf : well, he is klingon
Odo : could be cute, he just doesn't choose to be :guffaw:

Now if you wanted to make it more difficult, it should be "Rom or Neelix". :)

If you say so :techman:

Didn't dax find Morn was "kinda cute" ?
