What do you hope to gain by complaining?

At this point I've just got a running commentary with an occasional peppering of fricatives. :D

I think there's two different types of complaining: the general well poisoner, shit magnet for whom nothing good ever happens and anyone within earshot gets treated to today's litany of how fucked up the world in general and their life in particular is;

Oh, for God's sake, why be so passive aggressive about it and just call me out already? :lol:

When there are no simple answers (like in, you know, life), complaining serves as a way to release tension, which in turn, lowers the blood pressure.

But it's a known psychological fact that people who harbor positive attitudes & optimistic worldviews are significantly happier and healthier than are people who are negative & pessimistic.

Yeah, but my point was, that without the ability to vent their frustration--complaining (let's be honest here, sometimes, people have no other choice), People would have higher blood pressure, and in turn, die younger.

Harboring pessimistic views does not automatically translate into less healthy worldviews. Sometimes, people complain for a reason, that reason being they are powerless to change whatever it is that's frustrating them. When that's the case, complaining can be like a laxative.

Cursing a blue streak works for me alot of the time.

I hope I explained my point better this time.

I completely agree with this. I bottled up my emotions (and still do to a point), and got high blood pressure as a result, which set off a chain reaction.

You're right, letting off steam helps. I guess what I'm saying is that you can't dwell on the negative. You just have to let things go, especially things that are out of your control.
