Did KIRK die alone?

Technically, no. But he DID die away from any of his friends and loved ones. So in a way, his death was worse than dying in the presence of those he loved and vice versa. But then, he helped save 300 million sentient souls from perishing in a giant shockwave. So it's a tradeoff.

..and I have no problem with his death, in that matter. A lot of haters of that movie wanted him to die in battle or something like that. Instead? He died for an alien race he had never met, and he didn't care. He was a hero to the end, even to those who never knew who he was. There is no better way for a hero to die...except in bed with three Vulcan sex slave babes.

Maybe he wasn't predicting that when he died, he'd happen to be alone, but that if he ever was alone for any extended period of time, that would kill him? Meaning, he depends on the support of his friends such that if he was separated from them, that would mean he'd die. Not "When I die, I'll be alone", but "If I'm alone [for a long time], I'll die as a result".

Pretty sure Picard was standing right over Kirk when he died.

TECHNICALLY Kirk didn't die alone...I think what he meant in context is that he'd die without family, close friends or loved ones nearby or right there when he passed. A fear I imagine most of us have at one time or another.
