The 82nd Annual Academy Awards - discussion thread

did Clooney make a bored face during the interpretive dance shtick? I missed it!

I really hope he did. I know I did.

It struck me as more of a WTF face.

I just read somewhere else that he did. He's been pretty pestered throughout the whole show.

Like Zack Landis said

"George wishes he wasn't here and he'd rather be setting up phone lines for Haiti"

This only confirms that George Clooney and I look and think alike. :shifty:

^ The segment for District 9.

Thanking the Academy for not considering Na'vi a foreign language --.

I remember back in January, there was an Australian film, Samson & Delilah, which had made the short list for best foreign language films.

Why do they start these awards shows so late? I need to go to sleep. It's freaking Sunday and most of this country has to work in the morning.

I know they are on the west coast but would it throw that big of a wrench into their lives to start it an hour or two earlier?

Then they will apologize for the best picture award not coming out till past midnight on the east coast and how next year they will make things go faster. They don't have to speed up the ceremony. Just start it earlier.

I think Avatar took motion capture/virtual environments to a much further level than anything Trek did.

If you ask someone versed in the tech and industry, they'll no doubt agree with you. Hence while I am not surprised it won.

From my end-consumer perspective, i.e. the person who actually pays for a ticket to see it, I was not wowed or impressed. Trek wowed me.

I may be biased because I did not care much for the new Trek at all and I very much wanted to.

I do know random people go on and on to me about Avatar, people who watch genre fare, people who never do normally, everyone. I don't think it's just being swayed by the media.

All the random people I've talked to about Avatar were like, meh ok but I wish I spent my >$20 on something else. I got a far more positive reception for Star Trek from my non-geek friends.

The self-fulfilling prophecy of Avatar's own media hype seems to be the only thing driving ticket sales in my area. Word of mouth certainly isn't.
