New image and new trailer (almost)

My reaction to the trailer: Holy shit! What the hell was that?

It kind of looked like a parody of the more surreal sequences of 70s Doctor Who with everyone just floating there. I would have preferred a more conventional trailer. Nice Easter present, though. :)

Seems to me that the parts on the grass is probably out of the first or second episode, and then the middle section is the goofy not really in the show part.

A friend of mine said it was Doctor Twilight.

I'm sure the part on the grass was also special for the trailer. Remember, it'd have to be shot specially, in order to be in 3D.

Judging by the reaction, I have a feeling there's a lot of people expecting Moffat's Doctor Who to be a lot more "dark and serious" than it's really going to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was his and the BBC's way of saying that it's still, at heart, going to be the same fun, family-friendly show as before.

Doctor Twishite more like. Good grief, did no one involved say "actually, this is the stupidest looking thing ever"? Perhaps RTD hasn't taken his legions of yes-men with him after all. I can only hope Smith's Doctor is a damn sight more likeable than he seems from everything I've seen so far. I mean, doesn't Moffat keeping going on about how Davison's his favourite Doctor? I'm not quite such a fan, but Davison did have one quality I wouldn't mind seeing the return of: he was quiet and thoughtful. I certainly can't imagine any of the first 8 Doctors grinning gormlessly all the time, snogging companions every 5 minutes, and saying things like "Come on then, where d'yer wanna go?" while prancing around the Tardis console like the floor's on fire.

...erm, yeah, in short, not such a fan of this trailer. I also hope the Weeping Angels don't get ruined. But I have a hard time seeing how they can be used in something other than a weak Blink rehash without giving them some new characteristic that harms them as a concept. Still, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Actually, I think it will be sillier and more melodramatic than the Davies era. Well, let's wait and see.

Did you miss the guy with teeth and curls? ;)
It wasn't the same. Tom Baker had a big smile, but it always showed an underlying cleverness, rather than "ahaa, a little shop!" or something assinine like that.

I rather like that joy and enthusiasm the Doctor has for the world around him. That kind of positive attitude is pretty rare on TV nowadays, and it's why I found Tennant's Doctor so damn endearing.

I certainly like it better than that somber, ho-hum attitude some of the other Doctors often had.

Just makes the Doctor seem like a bit of a twit sometimes.

What I really dislike most of all (aside from the Doctor/Rose Chavler nomance), and what Moffat is even more guilty of than RTD, is that we always have this idea forced on us that the Doctor is the greatest person in all existence. We just didn't get that in the old show, all this nonsense of people actually calling him a god. In the old show, he was a rogue Time Lord who went around righting wrongs, sometimes stumbling into situations by accident. There was no need for people to stand around applauding him. Maybe showing some fallibility would be good. Like that bit in Bad Wolf (or it may have been The Parting of the Ways) where it occurs to him that after killing the floormouth in The Long Game and leaving, he may actually have inadvertantly made things worse. I'm not suggesting the Doctor be some kind of buffoon who often gets things wrong, but the scripts treating the character with such sycophancy is irritating. The old show never needed that to get the point across of who the Doctor was. And it's another thing I'm hoping might be toned down in the next series, but I'm doubtful considering Moffat is as bad as anyone for it.

From Neil Gaiman's twitter feed:

You ALWAYS don't like the new Dr Who. It's a rule. You miss the last one. But after a few weeks (or less) he's the Doctor. It's inevitable.

QFT.

I think that sums up how I've felt over the last four years because I really liked Christopher Eccleston and was unsure what was going to become of the Doctor afterwards. It only took "The Christmas Invasion" to convince me David Tennant was going to be just as awesome. Then when news came down that David Tennant was leaving I had the same feeling but with a little more faith.

That being said I'v been feeling a little apprehension since the news that the show would be changing not only an actor but a show runner and head writer. This aforementioned apprehension is nothing specific against Matt Smith, Stephen Moffat or any of the new production team.

Because love him or hate him Doctor Who fans knew what to expect of the Russell T Davies era. Again, for better or for worse we as fans had a certain comfort level with his production team and writing. I think most fans don't quite know what to expect of Stephen Moffat and his team yet and thats not a bad thing.

We just have to have a little faith and I think the show is good hands. As for this trailer, it's absolutely fantastic and as someone else already stated, this is the one that has me convinced that Matt Smith is going to rock. Finally, just be patient because as the song says "The best is yet to come"

The one thing I don't like about that trailer is that it's actually physically painful to me that after all the build-up, he says "The trip of a lifetime," and not "Fantastic."

Use the damn catch-phrase! That's what it's for!
I didn't even know 10 had a catch-phrase until it was brought up in discussing his final episode. I need to pay closer attention.

Loved it.

I hope the season does what the trailer seems to imply it'll do -- restore the mystery and romance that's been missing from the show since Rose left. We got to know the Doctor a little too well, I think -- it's hard to have a show meant to imply the mystery of who the Doctor is when we start being able to really predict his behavior. And we got a little too far from the most basic, elemental relationship that makes the show tick -- the romance between a normal girl and an eccentric stranger who brings adventure to her life.

Agreed. I mean, come on. If people could learn to accept (and then love) freakin Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to do the same with Smith. lol

And for some fans, Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy is their Doctor.

Did he cop a feel on Amy there? :)

More of a simple promo trailer than anything else, whetting out appetites. I think MS seems Doctor-ish enough for me to give him a shot.

I like Blink but I'm not really feeling a need to revisit the angels.

Watching again I notice The Doctor is wearing a watch witch seems kind of funny.

Pertwee wore one as well.
