Rape Gangs

Yes, no, or maybe. I'm not harboring some desire for Tasha Yar to have been raped, I'd just like to know one way or another.

There is absolutely no definitive "on screen" evidence either way, so you can think exactly what you want to think!

I wonder why this planet was even considered for membership, did the Federation even bother talking to people from this world before sending over their flagship? If the representatives from the planet had not acted like paranoid schizophrenics, they would have been almost guaranteed membership.

I'm sure it would not be THAT simple. Clearly they talked for a while and continued to scratch the surface finding out what made a planet tick.

We own three female cats, two of whom aren't spayed yet (emphasis on the yet). I don't think they're capable of being raped, the little beggars.

We once saw her tell her pet cat to run because it wasn't "safe here anymore" as a rape gang closed in on her.
They were going to rape the cat?

No, but they'd probably eat it. As Myasishchev points out, a gang cannot live on rape alone.

There was probably a rather sophisticated system worked out among the gangs: rape the girls (and boys) but don't kill or disfigure them--catch-and-release, if you will. Any consumables on the person of the raped would become property of the gang There were no doubt members of rape gangs who were victims (rather than survivors) themselves. Depending on just how fucked up things were on the planet, many victims might just see rape as a rite of passage.

I think if I had perused this thread a handful of years ago, during my particularly "angsty" phase, I would have been quite offended by the jokes.

Now, I'm just moderately disconcerted. And perhaps slightly amused.

^
Such is the jading of age.

I'd love to feel young and innocent again. But the jokes back then are rubbish.

Marry me. You too, Amaris. We can be like Big Love, only with roofies.

There was probably a rather sophisticated system worked out among the gangs:

See, the jokes are ok, but then somebody, inevitably, has to work out a means to make it fit canon and then its just not as funny any more :angryrazz:

Hey, I made my share of jokes. I just think it's fun to think things through--that's one of the appeals of SF. As far as canon is concerned, the gangs got hold of that long ago. Canon put up a good fight--too good a fight.

We shan't be hearing from canon again, sadly. :(

^ Yes, we are bad people.

But, they probably caught her at least once. We once saw her tell her pet cat to run because it wasn't "safe here anymore" as a rape gang closed in on her.

And, after all, Roddenberry's future isn't prefect. The latest movie raped my childhood.

So they were gonna rape her CAT? kinky....

Rape isn't funny.

I hope not, because then how could murder be funny? And if murder can't be funny I'm afraid I really don't understand comedy at all.

No, but they'd probably eat it. As Myasishchev points out, a gang cannot live on rape alone.
It could also just be an expression of authority rather than an economic system. The area a rape gang controls is their rape zone; raping someone within their rape zone without their permission is directly challenging their authority. Maybe Tasha Yar was trying to go over the border in search of a more leinent rape gang where their droit de seigneur wasn't strictly held to.
