It was a stroke of genius last night to have War of the world "The cylinder unscrewing" music over the minister who was trying to define terror threat levels, cracked me right up.
D'oh! Missed that one, I like to see what SF music he'll have in the background. He used quite a few Space 1999 snippets IIRC.
He tends to use Humanity (part 2), from Morricone's score for The Thing, quite often. Not to mention his frequent use of The Gonk, from Romero's Dawn of the Dead, too.
Ah, iPlayer had episode 2 and 3 up, caught that scene, nicely chosen.
Made me wonder how we got through the 80s with severe terror threats (in N Ireland) all the time. We made arrangements to meet in a certain place during a bomb scare if we went to Belfast and that was about it. As assistant manager in a clothing store, my uncle checked for incendiary devices, but that was as risky as our family chose to be. Oh yes, Dad's side of the family used the old "The UVF would spot our Irish number plates" speil to avoid visiting
The new and improved terror alerts used to have their own homage with the Firefox ad on that reminded you of the Homeland Insecurity idiocy level, but it doesn't seem to have been updated for newer versions.
I think I may be remembering older shows of his. There's quite a mixed bag in there.

I liked the Adam Curtis film in last night's episode, and the "reconstruction" of Blair's session before the Chilcot Inquiry.

I remember Brooker put his series "The Power of Nightmares" up for comparison against some "youth" orientated TV to see what teens really would like in an episode of Screenwipe, so I'm guessing he's another favourite of Brooker.

I choked on my beer at one point in the show though, when they dragged out that uber-wag and had her look straight onto the camera. Is it her make up or does she really look a little... funny.

This was the last episode? Too bad.
This is another show that I wish was on more often... someone needs to do a British news show that runs for more than 2 months a year.

There are shows that run longer. Or have 2 short runs (or more) per year. HIGNFY, 8 out of 10 Cats, Russell Howards Good News, The 'wipe shows just aren't included in that.
This is the first time I've caught a series of Brookers, read a few of his articles and made sure to watch his gameswipe but other than that this is the first time I've sat down to watch him. I've been impressed and will certainly be watching more, I did notice an overuse of War of the Worlds but maybe that's just the last few episodes.
If you're interested in watching more of his shows then Youtube user xthemusic has all his BBC shows uploaded. Some of them will be dated because they discuss things that happened on TV 4 years ago, but they're still very funny and I had a great time watching them all last year. Then again, I was unemployed and has far too much free time.
And in case you're wondering, Charlie Brooker is cool with it, he allows the shows to be posted because they're not released on DVD. He even joked about it in one of the episodes of Screenwipe.

I went back through a few of his older shows (I hadn't heard of him until a few series in) and was pleased to see I had been watching some of his favoured shows all along.
Its just nice to get some sort of affirmation like that once in a while
