Remember Miss Teen South Carolina (some people don't have maps)?

The ratings are always good no matter who's on, and this girl deserves a chance to redeem herself.

Even she has said the I was asked a question in a high stress situation, opened my mouth and stupidity came out. I knew it sounded stupid but just rambled.

Hey, it happens. I'm betting we all have had dumb moments. I'll give her the benefit of doubt until something further comes along.

This is another great example of how F%cking up at something in life ends up paying off more then if she had given a smart and informed answer.

It's a weird, unfair, frustrating world isn't it?

Don't understand why everyone made fun of her. "Because some people don't have maps" is a damn good answer. Better than anything I could have come up with when asked that question on the spot.

That part wasn't that bad. Kind of silly if you think about it, but not the worst part. The worst is the rest of her answer, where she begins to really ramble and her sentences make absolutely no sense. This is really pretty bad any way you look at it:

"...I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and...I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries..."

It's one thing to ramble incoherently like that when the pressure of being on TV gets to you. It's another thing to be the guy at the bus stop rambling incoherently to himself for several hours straight.

Yeah, she was asked the question on the spot. It's not like she knew she was going to be asked questions and went through months of preparation and coaching for any possible question.

I don't believe you. I think almost anyone would have come up with something better than that. It's basically every cliché answer ever uttered by a beauty pageant candidate thrown into a grinder and turned into nonsense purée.

For further reference, Upton was asked:
"Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

And this is what she replied:
"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education, like, such as South Africa and, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caitlin_Upton#cite_note-Guardian-7

If anything, she was overcoached, and they never hit that particular question, so she just threw everything she'd been trained to say together.

Don't forget the broadway version!

Sort of like how President (then-candidate) Obama talked about the "58 States", right?

Yes. A mental slip is the same thing as rambling on about nothing and pretty much just saying random words in something vaguely coherent as a sentence.

Good job. I stand corrected.

It could be worse, she could be against opposite marriage and then bitch that people are talking away her First Amendment rights while on The Today Show!!!!

Fucking cult...

What are we talking about again?

To be fair, it's not a question that lends itself to an off-the-cuff reply, she's not a politician. That said, she still made an utter pig's breakfast out of it, and it was funny as hell. No need to carry the stigma for life, though.

She's sexy so I forgave her a long time ago.
So true. Still, if she only could've had some crib notes written on her hand it might have gone better.

Staying with the sexy theme though.
