Cover for Doctor Who Magazine(spoiler)

(That said, it's Mark Gatiss who's written this year's ep, and he's one of my favourite Who writers, so fingers crossed!)

Really? I mean, I absolutely adore "The Unquiet Dead," and count it among my absolute favorite episodes of the revival, but "The Idiot's Lantern" is the textbook definition of bland. I don't even remember a single thing from it outside of the Doctor / police interrogation.
It's still a better hit/miss ratio than Rustbucket. And Gatiss has also written some DW books and audio. I'm fairly confident he'll deliver.

As USS Bones says, I was talking abot his overall record. You're right, The Idiot's Lantern wasn't great (although The Wire's a promising villain) but including his book Nightshade, one of the finest Who novels ever, and the OTR-tastic Invaders From Mars from Big Finish I think he's one of the finest of the modern era. I even think Phantasmagoria is underrated.

Speaking of Doctor Who Magazine, is it worth getting?
DWM is the best TV-based magazine I have read. Very few ads, very much content (including a monthly column by Moffat and an ongoing comic). I gave up reading the Star Trek and Star Wars mags ages ago, but I still buy this. Definitely worth it.

I still read the Trek magazine (and I think the current incarnation is better than the last several years of the Star Trek Communicator magazine), but yeah, DWM is the gold standard for this kind of thing. It's intelligent, it's funny, it's willing to be critical, and there's a lot more to read in an average issue than there is in the other two SFTV mags I read, Trek and Torchwood. (I can't really recommend the Torchwood mag to anyone but diehard fans, though.)

What, both of them?

...sorry.

On the subject of DWM, they had a copy at a library I joined the other day. It was alright. I can see the appeal if you're really into Doctor Who. Which I suppose I am these days.

Thanks for the DWM feedback. Turns out there is a Game / Toy / Comic Book shop in town willing to order it for me. No need to drive for a half hour to SLC. I'll be checking it out.

I like the Dalekmania font they used on the cover.

That type of font has pretty much become associated with the Daleks. The novel Prisoner of the Daleks has all the Dalek dialogue written in that font.

DWM has used it for Dalek dialogue in the strip, too, I think, though I don't have my copy of Obilivion on hand to check.

Hmmm.. I may have to reconsider getting it.. I'll have to check with my local comic shop to see if they'll start carrying it.. Will be a good excuse to *ahem* drop by.. If my wallet's a bit heavy with extra cash for some titles, so be it.. :)

Won't my wife be pleased.. LOL

It always starts small. lol DWM was my first "pull file" item. And then it grew and grew and grew. Like a Tribble.

I got this months. It's a very good magazine but I only budget for one mag a month so I tend to rotate depending on which one of the ones I read looks more interesting at the time ;)
