Kirk/William Shatner Apprecation Thread

Pine was good in his own way as a young James T Kirk but he has to develop more hopefully in the sequels he will. I also think Shatner's Kirk is a icon, a hero isn't he?

Agreed. Kirk was an icon, and Shatner had a big part in making that so. I love Shatner.

But I also love Chris Pine. I think he's an actor with a lot of talent and a wide range, able to be a jerk one minute, a commander the next, and then a nice guy the next. Give him a chance, folks. Even Shatner wasn't an icon in the first TOS episode!

That is very true, he really didn't become an icon until later. And it will be the same for Pine's verson of Kirk as well. This movie was just to show how the crew got to where they are in the tv series. The more movies there are,the more the charcter develops. It was the same when Shatner first took the role of Kirk.At the begaing of the series Shatner's Kirk was good but not as good as now.Kirk got better as the series carried on along the way to the movies. But that's my oppion of course.

I have never understood those who put-down or under rated Shattner as Kirk. If it had not been for hiim or any of the original cast, there never would have been Star Trek! I would never rank Shattner as an Oscar class actor as he is always a little over the top, but he was a good actor. I liked one of his earlier roles in a film caled Nuremburg.

Shatner/Kirk IS Star Trek. One of my highlights is getting to sit next to him on a plane for FOUR fricking hours. He was really down to Earth. To me he is and always will be Kirk; but I do like Pine; just not as much. No one can ever be Kirk as good as Bill Shatner.

I think without William Shatner there wouldn't have been Star Trek or him as Prime Kirk and there wouldn't have been another Kirk Chris Pine's .

^ Well, geeze, what did you talk about? Do tell!

We talked about Star Trek V for about an HOUR! He told me what he wanted to do and what he had to give up and, wow, that movie could have been so much better had they let him tell his story. He didn't blame anyone, now.

We talked about TJ Hooker. My dad was a cop for many years, and Bill talked about driving around with the cops in LA for several months, just to get a feel.

I asked him about Jack Lord and got some interesting stuff there. The four hours went by so fast. Somewhere along the way he said he missed Deforest. Thats about all I remember. But just getting to sit next to him and hear him as a regular human being was the best part.
