Bioshock 2

We're less than one week away from the release of Bioshock 2. I know I'm anticipating it. The first Bioshock was the best example I can think of for "games as art." The atmosphere, sound, and visuals all came together into a gripping package. Of course, the game play was great too. So here's our thread to discuss our anticipation, and once the game comes out, how awesome it is.

In the meantime, placate yourself with this new trailer:

This is the second ever full price new game I've bought, the first being Mass Effect 2. I'm using this Amazon "get $10 off the next game" thing. Next up: Final Fantasy 13!

I plan on giving the game a shot. Not sure if I want to pay full price for it though. I liked the first one but not enough to drop 60 bucks for the sequel

Although the first game was very pretty and I liked the game itself, I felt it was too short for the full 60 bucks. I'll probably rent it and then buy it when the price drops a bit.

I literally just bought Bioshock 1 yesterday. Probably won't play til I finish Borderlands though. By the time I finish both, hopefully part 2 will be around $30.

You probably want to avoid the Bioshock 2 threads then because the first is definitely a game you can get spoiled on.

BioShock is a thing of beauty. I'm very excited to play BioShock 2, but I told myself I wouldn't buy it until the spring semester is over, so that I don't get distracted. Not sure if I'll be strong enough to hold off that long.

Steam still has their sale going on if you can grab 3 other people together to buy it.

It's the only reason why I bought it anyway. And even then, even though I own it, I still don't want to play it.

I'm picking up the limited edition of Bioshock 2 when it comes out Monday at midnight (along with Dante's Inferno). I won't play through the original Bioshock until I can get my hands on a complete limited edition version of that.

Holy cow! I didn't know the release was so soon. For some reason I was thinking March.

And I just spent all that money on ME2. Damn you video game industry for making awesome games I'm forced to buy on release day!

I don't see how you can possible enjoy Bioshock 2 without having played the first. The world of Rapture is one of the most engrossing in any game, and the experience of the sequel would be hollow without all the setup in the first game.

Well BS2 is basically its own adventure, there are some Ryan bits from the first game but you would not have needed to play the first game to take in what is happening in the second as its a different story, same goal, escape, but different story, although playing the first game(and you should its that good) would give you a lot more depth to the BS universe.

I just got my copy this morning and its brilliant.

This game is tough tough tough and that's on medium settings, i might actually have to drop down to easy settings as its becoming a choir, especially collecting Adam with the little sisters, that's just eats up your ammo and plasmids and if you die(which you do, frequently) you have to do the whole thing again minus what you just had on the previous attempt.

I set it to easy and breezed through the whole game. Getting killed every 5 seconds is not my idea of fun. It's much more enjoyable being able to relax and enjoy the whole Rapture world.

Loved the first one, still on the fence about picking this one up though. Any reviews singing its praises yet? I must admit, the concept is fascinating. I may have to hire it first.

Ah screw it, Ill buy it tomorrow.

Seems about right.

I've only played the first 30 minutes or so and it just feels really... samey. The sense of wonder you get in Bioshock the first time you see Rapture is gone and there isn't anything to replace it with. The game mechanics feel fine, but it just feels like it's just retreading.

I kinda hoped with Bioshock 2 they'd go in a totally different direction in a completely new setting with the same core mechanics... but alas, that was not to be.

^Yeah, kinda assumed it would essentially be Bioshock 1 with added levels. Still, it would have been nice if they did shake it up a little.
