Bioshock 2

I just got Bioshock 2 and I love it, the first one was cool, this one is better. For me that is.

Overall, I thought the game was pretty good. I did think it was very linear in nature and, was it just me, or did Tenenbaum disappear from the game after the first 10 minutes or so? I beat it last night, but insofar as I can tell, Tenenbaum never returned. Did I miss something? I collected more than 100 of the audio diaries!

I just started the "Fontaine Futuristics" level. I'm playing on easy and I'm having a real problem running out of ammo now. What's the best weapon to use against the Spider Slicer? Those things eat up bullets like crazy. I'm also annoyed that if you freeze and kill someone they don't drop loot! My vote for creepiest song ever is definitely for the soft bright "Hush hush hush, cause I'm the boogeyman" song they play in the loading screen.

Electrobolt+drill-melee is the most effective killing method in the game. Save ammo for tougher enemies.

Holy cow, how are you managing that?! They put so much ammo and EVE in Bioshock 2 it trashes the game balance.

Did you max out your research? Are you hacking security guns/cameras? Did you equip the scrounge gene tonic? Are you using special ammo when appropriate? Are you hacking vending machines for discounts and free ammo? Are you busting first aid stations for free health kits? Are you using telekinesis to grab out of reach items? Are you setting mini-turrets/rivet traps/electric lines/proximity mines for when you little sister harvests? Are you meleeing when enemies get close? Are you using hypnotize to get splicers fighting each other? Are you reusing your spear gun ammo?

I pretty much use electro shock and machine gun, then shotgun on the Big Daddies/Sisters. I don't like the spear gun so I don't use it. I hack the turrets/cameras I find, I haven't bothered with the hypnotize power. I've been doing all the gathering actions so I have an ass load of Adam and I've got all the latent abilities plus Electro Shock 3.

^How could you not like the spear-gun?

That thing was the most fun gun in the entire game. Especially the rocket spears. Watching splicers fly around the room like a deflating balloon is just hilarious.

I'm on my second play through on a harder difficulty and problems with the PC controls are really sticking out.

When I know a fight's coming like with little sister harvests there's no problem since I can prepare but the "surprise" brawls are just brutal. I'm not exaggerating, every time I've died it was because I was getting wailed on while frantically trying to switch weapons, plasmids, or ammo to something that's actually useful in that particular fight.

I'm not sure what happened to the quick select screen from Bioshock 1. It appears to be completely gone on the PC version. That makes using the camera rather harrowing against enemies that are initially tough like spider splicers and big sisters. It's especially bad for ranged enemies like leadheads because you automatically get dumped back to your short range weapons.

I dunno the spears didn't really do enough damage. I did find if I shot a Big Sister with a rocket spear she would fly around on the floor helpless for awhile while I wailed on her.

OK, finished the game! While the gameplay and action was just as good as the original, I'd definitely say the story wasn't as interesting. There wasn't really any kind of shocking plot twist, and there wasn't much of an ending either. So what was the bad ending? I saved all the Sisters. It's too bad "Summon *spoiler*" didn't come into the game sooner because that was bad-ass. And whoever said it earlier was right, Tennenbaum just disappears 1/3 into the game and we never from her again.

In the "bad" ending, Eleanor deliberately kills you against your will, and speaks of how the world will never see her coming, essentially showing how your lack of morals has turned her into a monster.

What about...
Elenor saving Lamb as her station floods? I would imagine in the bad ending she doesn't give her the breath mask and lets her drown?

Yay, I finally bought it for PC and made it through the first "task". I must say, as rusty as I am, I'm surprised that I'm not dead. I'm just not used to the PC controls *yet* and on the first go round, Big Sister had me in the corner and I'm shooting off my ammo, not thinking that I should run and put some distance between us. haha. Honestly, my first thought when she showed the first time was "Oh crap, I have to fight her already!?" :D

I'm enjoying it so far.

Like the first one, Bioshock 2 is amazing. The gameplay has been streamlined to good effect, what's tragic is just that a good part of the original's impact came from discovering the world that is by now, of course, old news. Sadly, there were no moments as chilling as, e.g. Bioshock 1's beginning before you step out of the bathysphere. But that was to be expected.

But when you get another 20 new hours or so in Rapture plus finally a multiplayer, it's ultimately a more lasting package. By the way, if any of you good folks would like to add me on PSN: Matsemitsu is the name. My leaderboard is sadly empty since i've only jumped ship from the 360 to PS3 a few weeks ago.

After taking a month break, I decided to go back to it. I think I enjoyed it for the most part - the ending was a nice little twist, but otherwise it felt like... well, what it is, a rehash. Not bad, but not the revelatory experience the first game was.

In a way it's like God of War 3 - more of the same, but slightly better.

I found Bioshock 1 on sale at Best Buy for $19.99 for PS3, so I'm gonna make that my next game. Hopefully it will be awesome and I will then be motivated to buy Bioshock 2.

Maybe...?

I rarely go to Amazon. I only picked this game up because I was wandering around Best Buy and saw that it was on sale.
