Star Trek XII : Heresy

Let's assume you have the power to influence Abrams & co into making one change for Trek XII.
That change has to be bold, has to contradict canon and must have fans screaming "Heresy" as the internet explodes.

What would that change be ?

I'd change Spock's haircut.
Begone would be the iconic bowl cut and its place would take a more...logical and nice hairstyle :p

I wouldn't have a problem with Spock altering his hairstyle. The sort-of caesar cut Quinto sports in the early screen tests on the DVD reminded me of Leonard Nimoy's hair in early episodes when they hadn't yet decided what Spock's look (or personality) was going to be.

I was going to propose this in my own thread, but I figure that this is just as good. Turn some of the prosthetic-heavy aliens into CGI creatures like Gollum in LOTR or the Na'vi in AVTR. Make the Cardassians like seven feet tall. Make their necks bigger, even more pronounced. And they should have no shoulders. Their neck smoothly segways into their arms which are longer and thinner. Their bodies would be tall and slender. Their faces would be long and narrow and the eyes deeper set. Of course I would suggest these alterations, I never really liked the Cardassian design in the first place. It never looked cohesive to me; it just looked like they took a bunch of old rubber appliances they had made for other alien races threw them on the actor's faces. You could pretty much see the glue that was holding each part in place. While they could probably redesign the Cardassian "look" without resorting to computer effects and mocap, I want this Star Trek to stay away from making all aliens in the galaxy look basically human. I 'd rather there be a small number of humanoid races (Vulcans/Romulans, Klingons, Orions, etc.) and the rest be animatronic creatures (ala Farscape) or CGI.

I would have the huge alien V'ger Doomsday Probe Widget actually get by Kirk and destroy Earth, so that Kirk has to deal with epic failure for once.

Heh.
Well, just to get into the "rebooty" spirit and go with the "You no longer can be certain just WHAT is going to happen next" theme, I would have the Enterprise go up against an alien menace in a tense scene, and get blown to bits. Kill most of the new crew. Prolly ought to keep a handful for continuity of franchise purposes--I'd keep Quinto, Urban, and Saldana--and maybe allow a badly scarred, bitter Kirk to survive--in a beeping wheel chair, marooned on Ceti Alpha V or something. Then another Starship, NOT named "Enterprise" would swoop in and save the day, introducing an all new crew and cast. After the dust settles, Enterprise survivors fill slots on the new crew roster and things go off in a totally unexpected direction from then on.

I'd flame the living daylights out of myself for that one.

Sarek runs for president of the Federation and wins. He is then nearly assassinated by a group of pissed off Starfleet officers lead by Admiral Pike, who--after having lost the election to Sarek in the first place--accuses him of being a Romulan collaborator and launches a coup de tat to oust him.

The coup fails--thanks to some timely and jaw-dropping heroics by the Enterprise and crew--after which Sarek moves the capital of the Federation to P'Jem.

Failing that...

Include a cloaking device as standard equipment on all Federation starships.

Reinvent the Klingons to be less Viking/Mongol/Hells Angel/ thrash metalhead in space, more terrifying. Think the Uruk Hai in LOTR. I want the Klingons to be huge, like eight feet tall. And I like those longcoats and helmets the Abrams-Klingons were wearing in the deleted scene. More, please.

Oh wait, heres a crazy idea! Strap in! How about... now get this: Spock. And Uhura. In a relationship! I know its crazy isn't? Could you imagine? It would be really hot, but total heresy. Maybe the second movie though... drop a few hints... warm fans up to the idea, a little at a time.. and then --whallop! fifth Abrams movie they kiss.

Sounds good, kind of like taking people's idea of Klingon and going nuts with it.

Even though it probably won't happen, I want them to REALLY look into the consequences of the power vacuum left by the loss of the Vulcan and the vulnerability to the federation by some kind of unusual alliance (or Dominion resurgence? Borg?)

Though he would remain heterosexual, Kirk becomes a cross-dresser and demands the crew address him as "Madge".

A love triangle between Kirk, Uhura and Spock. When Khan kills Uhura, Spock's mental discipline collapses like a card house. He blames Kirk for everything and turns into the bad guy.
