How often do you use a printed phonebook?

I sometimes use Yellow Pages when I am looking for a business but I rarely use the White Pages in the phone book. The writing is too small so I would rather use the online White Pages.

We get multiple phone books every year, and I never use them. I don't think I've used a phone book in at least two or three years.

In fact, I just tossed a few of them into the recycle bin.

I don't use them at home at all. We still get them, but I throw them out.
But when I'm away, I find sitting in the hotel and browsing the restaurant ads and menus printed in the yellow pages of most phonebooks helpful for finding a good place to eat, especially when I'm unfamiliar with an area.

Only when I have no internet connection at my disposal at home, which is somewhat rare (meaning, technical problem with my all computers or the net).

I'll sometimes stop at a filling station to use the phonebook when I'm out an about.

I do like all the dry cleaning coupons. That's pretty sweet.

Yeah, I think I only use them when I'm travelling. They can come in handy then.

I still use them fairly often.

But unlike Miss Chicken, I generally use the White Pages. I REALLY hate the Yellow Pages because of having to guess what category something's under. I'd rather just get the name of the business I want and just go for it on the alphabetical-order list.

I haven't used a phone book in maybe 10 years. Just never really had call to. These days most people give you their mobile phone number not a landline, and if I want to look up numbers for business I use the internet.

I rarely use the phone (the only thing I have a mobile for is to text people and use MSN on the go), let alone use a phonebook. If I really need to look a number up, I'll usually find it on the internet.

I hope you mean recycling bin.

Paper made from virgin pulp is where it's at.

I used to use them all the time. At some jobs, we would have a library of phone books for cities all over the country and major business and manufacturing centers worldwide. In the last decade or two, however, what used to be given for free on request has become difficult to obtain and not free. What had been one local directory comprising white pages and yellow pages has fragmented into half a dozen or more of each--published by different companies interested mainly in advertising revenue--none of which has anything like complete coverage. Further, the so-called "smart" yellow pages only serve to make things harder (or impossible) to find.

I still use printed phone directories and yellow pages occasionally for local stuff, but it's generally much more efficient today just to Google whatever you're looking for and to maintain a custom set of bookmarks for things you'll be wanting to look up regularly.
