Mass Effect... am I totally plot-spoiled?

Elemental

My first interest in the game was after a Video Games Live concert where they played the theme and I instantly became interested. I however do not own an X-Box and didn't plan on getting one so I looked into the PC version. However, I read so many negative comments about the security features on the game that I was dissuaded from getting it.

I eventually reached a point where I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get the game but was interested in the games plot and so watched a Gametrailers video that summed up the story... Now I'm kicking myself because I decided to get the PC version and am wondering if I'm still going to have the same excitement from playing it that I otherwise would have.

I don't remember every single detail of the plot but I remember things like the big bad alien race building the Citadel and periodically coming back to wipe out all advanced alien races... I remember seeing the end video of fighting Saren or getting him to commit suicide and then Sheperd surviving, choosing who he wants to have sit on the council, and then going off to prepare for the fight ahead. So, my question is, have I totally spoiled the experience of the story of Mass Effect? Are there more details to look forward to than what I stated above? Make me feel better guys! Despite the details I've posted, please make posts spoiler-free.

That's pretty much the main story with all the shocking plot twists. There's still a lot of detail and context but that's the big stuff.

Your description sounds accurate, but there is a certain, important decision you have to make near the end, though.

That's pretty much the jist of the main plot, though it's not all of it.

While you may have lost a lot of the shock value, I don't think it'd ruin you're experience of the game. Afterall, I've completed it and I still play it to see some scenes again.

Also part of the fun is getting to know the alien races and the main characters.

Yeah, I didn't quite expect that. Game is worth playing through just so to make playing ME2 better since your decisions carry over.

Yep. They pulled a Fallout 1. :lol

There are bits that are worth seeing yourself in ME1... but then again, it does feel very dated - particularly the static cameras during conversations. There's also the freaking Mako, but that's a whole other problem.

I thought that was a really cool plot twist, did everyone like it? About the Citadel I mean.

About the Citadel's actual purpose, yeah that was a plot twist and a half. But right from the first time I saw the relay monument while exploring the Citadel, I always thought there was something iffy about it. I figured it would be important later.

I was in the same boat when I got the game and I knew about the issues it had on the PC but I still enjoyed it immensely.

^Driving it was easy enough, but in some cases it took forever to actually get anywhere. It just felt like you were driving for the sake of it.

I definitely didn't enjoy the Mako sequences on 360. Driving around a barren brown landscape getting stuck on hillsides trying to figure out where the hell you're supposed to go? No thanks. My only 3 complaints about the game were Mako; inventory system; elevator loading times.

^ I had fun driving the Mako (think that was just me though :p), and the terrain was fun, just wish there was more variation of stuff to actually do on the non-plot major planets besides scanning for minerals.

My main complaints were the inventory system and the elevator loading times too.

I actually kind of liked driving the Mako, too. It just took to long to get anywhere, and the rewards for the traveling were almost nonexistent.
