Dating at Work

It depends how much you like your job. It's important to remember that he who hits on co-workers (especially if its more than one) goes right to the top of the list of who gets laid off should layoffs become necessary.

Also remember rank difference. The GM that's dating a shift might not raise to many eyebrows, till they have a break up or a bad fight and then it's sexual harassment. Or you get a pissy coworker that thinks you're giving your partner favors cause you're in a relationship and the coworker goes crying to HR.

In the words of my ever-so-eloquent manager:

"Jews* can date jews. Managers can date managers. Jews can't date managers."

*"Jews" was some weird contraction of "you guys" that he insisted was a result of his Chicago accent. Being from Chicago, I do not believe him for a second.

You gotta be careful. As posted by others, in a small office, and especially where favoritism would arise, avoid it. I've heard so many stories about someone's wife/brother/etc getting all the raises and easy work (basically not working), while all the rest have to cover.

As for me, I met Hubby at work. At that time, our department had about 120 people (in a company of 100,000). At one point, there were FOUR couples in my department, all of whom met at work. In couple2, the guy starting just before me, the gal just after--they have a kid and I think are still married after 15+ yrs. In couple3, they kept it so much on the DL that their friends were shocked to learn the two were together--they were together about 5 yrs but divorced years ago. Couple4 were ... well, she was seeing a married co-worker (a REAL jerk, we all thought she had more brains and better taste), then married another co-worker much closer to her age--last I heard they were still married and had a kid.

No real problems anywhere. Probably because no favorites were played. I did congratulate my old boss before he retired--he had hired four of us (me, Hubby, and couple 2). I told him he should become a matchmaker. Total engineer--he had never realized that he had hired us all and that we hadn't known each other before that.

I met girlfriend at work and it went really well. We kept it professional and platonic when we were scheduled together. I ended up being transferred to another store, which I suspect was due to our relationship. My manager just told me it was because it was closer to home and he thought he was doing me a favor.

I'm currently working with MDs...and have absolutely no interest in dating that personality type, so my problem is solved.

I suppose it depends on where you work. Wait, no it doesn't it's all good. Why deny your feelings if there's something there? Could be the person you're destined to spend your life with, and you could be missing out because of some kind of personal rule.

Destined. Yeah, meet the "love of your life" at some job you happened to get.

Oh, you actually believe in that stuff. :shifty:
Oh, suck my balls, asshole. :bolian:

Is this a joke? Are you two friends? Because you really don't think that comment is going to fly, do you? I don't care how rude he was being, you can't respond like that.

Sure I can! I just did! Lol. He seems like the kind of person that would think it was funny. If not, oh well, that's life on the internet.

Cool! My first warning!

I've dated women I worked with several times in my past, with varying degrees of success. As a manager of a donut shop I dated a girl that worked for me, and it did cause a few problems at work, so she quit, and we dated for a few years after that. I worked at a department store and dated a girl in another department and the work thing never got in the way, it was actually pretty cool as we saw each other everyday and had lunch together ect.

When I was an asst. manager at a pizza restaurant, there were three shifts, and I worked all three on rotation. I ended up dating a waitress on each shift, they never worked together, so it worked out great! Until the manager, a woman, found out and scheduled all three girls for the same shift, with me. Not good for the Kailer. But I'd like to point out this was a LONG time ago.

So, sometimes it works out datinmg at work, and sometimes it does not.

 Had this been within teh last year, I'd swear you were an old friend from grade school. He basically did the same thing: was a manager at a fast food joint, was getting it on with 2 of his teenage cashiers (he's in his early thirties) and thought he had it figured out, was 1005 postive he's never get caught, till one girl came in off her shift to get some school papers signed by him and caught him and the other girl in the back parking lot while he was giving her his "special sauce" so to speak.

Best part (from a evil laugh at the idiot POV): the other girl tooka pic on her cellphone, called the guy's wife, the girl's father and had them come down to the restaurant.

Whoa! I want to know how that ended.
