Star Trek Online and Countdown Graphic Novel Continuities

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned that the novels have already contradicted Countdown. In Countdown the Narada was outfitted with Borg technology, but in the novels the Borg and all traces of their technology have disappeared.

Because it's not a contradiction.

They reversed engineered it, either from what was on record when it comes to Borg tech, or they found pieces of the stuff and before it turned to dust (ala A Singular Destiny) they were able to gather some of it's secrets.

Another TrekLit/Countdown incompatibility that hadn’t come up: Shi’Kahr. The birthplace of Spock was razed in Destiny, yet in Countdown it’s doing just fine (and with art based on the STXI CG). Best left unsolved, me thinks.

That and I didn't see any mention of the Typhon Pact, and you would think they would help evacuate Romulus since the Romulan Star Empire was a member of the Pact.

Maybe the RSE secceded, out of disghust over having less influence than they wanted.

Maybe the Pact has dissolved by then.

Who knows?

This is why I'd like to see a novelization of these events--one that follows whatever TrekLit leads up to that point. An expansion of events--much like Mack's Sorrows of Empire.

If he can re-print a short story and expand it into a novel...

The Sorrows of Empire was already a short novel (40k+ words) when it was printed in Glass Empires. Dave took the original manuscript and DavidRGeorge-ified it for the standalone edition.

;)

Actually, to be fair to Star Trek Online, it's not at all implausible that ShiKahr could be rebuilt between 2381 and 2409. That's twenty-eight years, after all.

The devs have specifically stated that Destiny did not happen in their timeline.
Mainly because they already had put a lot of work into the Borg, when Destiny came out and they thought players would love to fight them.

Yes, I as much earlier in this thread. I was just pointing out that the existence of ShiKahr in STO wasn't necessarily an indication of anything.

Today, I actually stumbled over MacKenzie Calhoun in STO.

He's one of the battlemasters (PvP-related NPCs) on K7. No sign of his ship, though. :(

Does he have a scar? Give us a screen shot. :)
He does indeed.

Nice!!!! Thanks for the screen shot. I was going to wait until I read some reviews then decided I was probably going to get it at some point anyway just to check it out myself so went ahead and signed up now so I could get the pre-release bonuses. I'm still going through training but I'll keep an eye out for him...

Is that really supposed to be Calhoun? Aside from the scar, I don't see the resemblance. And wouldn't he be 75 years old in the STO timeframe? (Well, 74, thanks to the time jump in Double Time.) Do we know anything about Xenexian longevity?

That's all great and all, but does he have a removable scar on his forearm? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

;)

The resemblance to what? It's not like he's a screen character who has been played by an actor. He's looked different in the comics vs. the No Limits omnibus vs. the novel covers and I'm not even sure he's been consistent on the novel covers either. Oh and there's the doll as well.

^Well, the various renditions of Calhoun looked like basically the same face to me, allowing for differences of artistic interpretation. This face looks distinctly different, as well as far too young.

And since I'm not familiar with the context or the workings of this game, it's a fair question to ask, how is it known that this character is Calhoun? Is that actually stated in the game?
