US version Of Torchword in development!

What would be the point of paying to remake Torchwood if you loose all the Who parts?

Because the idea is still sound without them?

Secret team of people protecting New York from Aliens and Alien Technology that from their secret base under, I dunno, Grand Central Station led by a mysterious man who is more than he appears.

BBC Worldwide have started to try and sell shows directly to the US market. It makes perfect sense to start with a remake of something that's already had some success. (Albeit on a pretty tiny scale.)

but the name Torchwood comes from Doctor Who, so if the Doctor Who parts are not in this, why would it even be called Torchwood? & Jack would need a whole new back story. Cyberwoman would need alot of changes as well.

In reverse order...

Why would they remake Cyberwoman?

Don't explain it at all. He's a mystery man who can't die for some unknown reason.

Just off the top of my head...Torchwood can be the name of the house where Lincoln was when he encountered some nasty aliens and decided to set up a secret organisation to fight them.

The notion that this show will be out of continuity is premature. There's no reason to make that a full break.

Except that they'll want as many people as possible to watch and starting off from the premise that you have to have watched this other series (or two series) which only air on that tiny cable station that you don't get wouldn't be a smart move.

*Yawn*. How horribly, mind-boggingly lame would that be. And cringe-worthy, too.

And no, I cannot come up with something better. I think they should take it as it is or leave it alone.

I think it would be rather easy to keep this within existing continuity without having to constantly make references to Doctor Who or the UK Torchwood. Captain Jack can still be Captain Jack, and Torchwood can still be the same Torchwood without re-writing its history.

Use your imaginations a little bit, people!

Plenty of spin-offs exist in TV that don't require you to have any knowledge of the original show.

Jack only has to make ONE reference to the original series to keep the American version in continuity.

"In the 1800s England's Queen Victoria had a run-in with an alien. She ordered the creation of the Torchwood Institute to protect England from any future alien activity. Under the terms of <INSERT NAME OF FICTIONAL TREATY HERE>, I've been asked to come set up an American branch of Torchwood. In return you guys get to build a Navy base in Wales."

While I can't imagine why the US would need Torchwood (since we already have MIB, which is far larger and apparently more successful organization), I don't have much opposition to this in principle.

What I do think is that it's Fox and thus they might as well give up now because it's going to die and so we might as well not even bother.

I can't wait for the US version of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Airing on ABCfamily and staring....oh, I don't know, Suzanne Somers or something. ;)

there has been a discussion about this on the GB Sarah Jane Adventuers forum.

Angela Lansbury is Sarah Jane Smith
Alyssa Milano as Chrissie
Joe Flanigan so should be Alan

there are suggestions for other characters

The Comedian good question, why doesnt FOX just make a MIB series, its a well known brand, and would sell well around the world.
