You know what the beauty of 3-d is? If you dont like 3-d or the effect you can always watch a standard 2-d version. No one can force you to watch a movie in 3-d over 2-d. But when its filmed in 3-d or whatever they did with Avatar it also works in 2-d...

Okay, now you lost me. If you mean movies being released to theaters in both 3D and 2D versions, and available on DVD and Blu-Ray also in both versions, then that would be good. I hope that's what actually will happen (I have no interest in purchasing a whole new TV and Blu-Ray player just for 3D, so I'd hope for some backwards compatibility). Is that what you meant?

Avatar can be viewed in 2D and 3D - Why would anybody decide not to release a 2D version considering the vast majority of all viewing systems can only work in 2D?

Unless you can find a really good answer for that, rest assured that it will be available in 2D.

I realize that, but how is this done? Don't they have to release separate 2D and 3D versions to theaters (and on DVD/Blu-Ray)?

Of course, if it's the case that a single version can be shown in both modes (3D for screens that support it, 2D for ones that don't), then that would also be a good thing.

There will be separate 2D and 3D Blu-ray releases as well.

That's cool. I'm not opposed on principle to 3D - *if* it looks good. I just don't have anywhere near the budget to get a whole new TV and BluRay player right now. Plus wouldn't it help to have a really *big* TV if you are gonna go 3D? Can't afford that either. :(

I am 99.9 pecent sure it will be released in 3D. Avatar is a game-changer.

Oh it will... But not the first release. They have already said it will be 2D only.

But Avatar will be one of the launch titles for the release of the 3D Blu-ray and 3D Tv's this fall - you can take that to the bank! :D There's isn't much point releasing it now because aren't any capable sets on the market (yet).

Yeah, unfortunately a big screen will be needed for the best effect. :(

But to see what the hoopla is about, you really owe it to yourself to go see Avatar in 3D. (sounds like you haven't seen it yet) The film won't cure cancer or anything , but just imagine what Trek could look like with such a presentation... :)
