Lost vs. Babylon 5

I love both shows, but Babylon 5 is STILL the reigning champeeeeen in my science fiction TV pantheon. Though I consider myself living in a blessed age with several more great shows to look to.

The tv series LOST is a really long, drawn out, boring soap opera that copied other ancient boring shows like "Crash Island" ,
"Fantastic Journey", "The New People", "Lost Flight".
It's slightly scifi
Slightly? Yeah, right.

but mostly just a love triangle series
You are right, it is all about that Locke/Island/Ben love triangle. Or is it Locke/Jacob/Ben? Locke/Richard/Ben? Jacob/Island/"Esau"?

that becomes totally incoherent with flash backs, flash forwards, more flash backs etc.
Not if you are paying attention and have a functioning brain and an attention span longer than 10 minutes.

If you want to know the plot of next season's Lost pick up a copy of the Honolulu and see what actor got themselves arrested. The plot and cast changes on any give season of LOST are dependent on which actor gets another DUI while driving around Hawaii because they are either bored out of their mind living on an island doing the show or bored out of their mind stuck on an island when JJ and his bunch aren't filming. So they go off get sh#tfaced drunk, get arrested and somehow JJ, Lieber and Damon Lindelof have to fit this mess into their next season of the tv show.
Geez, I must have missed the news of Ian Samerholder, Maggie Grace, Dominic Monaghan, Rebecca Maden, Harold Perineau, Jeremy Davies and Elizabeth Mitchell being arrested for DUI... then there's Emilie De Raven being half-arrested, and apparently, Terry O'Quinn must be arrested and not arrested at the same time, it's gotten confusing... :vulcan:

because they are either bored out of their mind living on an island doing the show or bored out of their mind stuck on an island when JJ and his bunch aren't filming.
That must be hard on them, since JJ hasn't filmed anything there since the pilot of Lost. Or has he filmed the new Star Trek there and I had no idea about that?

Lost has the edge because of the characters and the WTF moments.

And... get your facts straight. Lieber hasn't been involved since the pilot, and JJ left the series in season 1. IMDB is not your friend.

I love them both. I think I'm in love with Babylon 5 more, even though Lost is probably the better show.

I'll go with feh. :D

Did they ever explain what the lostzilla was back in season 1? I didn't stay beyond that season, I just had a feeling that they had no idea what direction the show was taking or what the supposed arc was (that and religibabble/miraclebabble more then slightly irritates me).

We know more or less "what" it is. We do not yet have a full explanation for its motivations or how it came to be.

Given recent developments, I theorize....
that it might be some type of nanotech from the future
, but there's nothing really to support that yet.

We learned that it is a security system, and that certain people who "work for the island" can call it. It also seems to act as a judge for the island's followers, decided whether they should live or die. Some have theorized it may be the Eyptian god of the underworld (or, a creature that the Egyptians once worshipped as a god of the underworld). In recent episodes a connection between the island and ancient Egypt has been suggested.

I really love BAB5, and seasons 1-4 are by far the best four seasons ever...but BAB5 went to the well to long after that (TREK did the same thing) and lost some of hits luster..

Lost has regained its mojo and is back on track. Its all going to come down to how it ends..if it ends with a whimper (like a certain Space opera did last year) it will be picked apart, and deservedly so.

I don't think B5 went to the well too many times. Crusade's first season was stronger than B5's, and had it gotten to continue, I for one believe we would have witnessed something extraordinary.

As an example.

Same with Trek. Season 4 of Enterprise was GREAT, as was the new film.

Lost and Babylon 5 are two quite different tv-shows, but it’s not a hard choice for me to make.

I lost interest in Lost after season 2, while I saw all five seasons of Babylon 5, still wanting more. Babylon 5 is the superior show.

I thought BAB-5 limped to the end of season 4...though it was still good. But season five on? Sorry, thats where the wheels came off and the show just got silly. What made Season 1-4 so great was how it all connected...not so with Season five and onward...IMO of course.

LOST had issues in seasons 2-3..but seasons 4/5, and hopefully season 6, have pulled it all together. JJ and his group have told a great story that better end well. I am confident it will and in ten years people will still remember it, where when I mention BAB-5 to 'normal' people all I get is...huh?? What was that?

Well, most "normal" people probably have said "huh, what is that?" to Babylon 5 ten years ago. Lost has far better ratings than B5 ever had. But that's because Babylon 5 is a full-blown space opera, while Lost is a drama with SF elements and therefore equipped with a broader appeal to the average viewer. In any case, financial success or viewership does not equal quality. By that definition, the "Transformers" movies are superior to "Moon".

B5 and Lost are both so good that it's perfectly legitimate for someone to say that Lost is better than B5... or vice versa.

LOST learned from Babylon 5.

Each season had its own small arc with a beginning, middle and end, as did B5. There were occasional stand-alone episodes in B5 that went nowhere, even in the middle of the grand arcs (I remember I was never fond of "Grey 17 Is Missing" nor of Franklin's walkabout character arc) which again were often seen in LOST too (a few season 1 and 2 episodes were like that). There is (apparently) some over-reaching grand arc in both shows. Both had Mira Furlan, for Jacob's sake! :adore: Both had great characters: for every G'Kar and Londo and Zack Allen, we had a Locke, a Ben, and a Hurley.

Personally, I feel the learner just edges the master. I mean, only one show has the Jackface™. :bolian:

Lost!

Wait ... what's that? I've never seen an episode of B5 and therefore have no rational basis with which to make my judgment?

Nevermind ...
