Hubby had taken me out for a nice dinner a few years ago, and I decided to try creme brulee for dessert, not sure if I'd like it.
Now, you have to know that I'm not usually one to like custards or flan or such, so this was something different for me. It seemed "fancy" to me, and I wasn't really a "fancy" person. Hell with that!
OMG! It was great! We happened to be at a place that has had consistently the best creme brulee I've had since ....
until now...
Hubby has been dying (figuratively) to make it at home. So we finally got ourselves a torch (he wouldn't have it any other way) and the ingredients together (not much, but we don't usually have cream in the house, so if we buy it, we better use it).
Ahhhh!
Such a nice, light flavor! And a smooth creamy texture! With that hint of vanilla. It was great. And the torch heated just the sugar and not the rest, so the texture stayed right.
Hubby said it was awful and he'd take care of getting rid of it...so I wouldn't have to worry about it, of course.
The only problem is the leftover eggwhites. I tossed in a few whole eggs and made scrambled eggs for breakfast. I'll have to find a recipe utilizing eggwhites--5 at a time.
Any other creme brulee lovers out there?
