Spider Man Reboot - Your Cast & Plot?

Tell me that Peter's not an idiot. :)

Organic webshooters take that problem away.

Peter's not an idiot. In the House of M version of events he made a fortune selling a version of his web shooters as a safe self-defence weapon. However, everyone knew he was Spider-Man so it didn't matter.

The problem is that if he sells this idea then it's a means of exposing his secret identity. All his enemies would have to do is find out who patented the idea and there you go - Spider-Man is Peter Parker.

And he can't just not be a superhero because of the "with great power comes great responsibility" thing.

I don't know why everyone wants Peter to be in high school; personally I would have an older Peter, in his early to mid twenties, graduating from college and balancing not only his superhero life but his personal life from the very beginning. Kind of like Spider-Man 2 in the beginning. Just throw the viewer in there.

The movie should begin with him having witty banter with a common thug robbing a bank and him riffing on the fact he's late for a job interview. The job interview is with Curt Conner at Empire State University. Conner isn't mad that Parker is late because he's used to Parker running a few minutes behind and it gave him time to talk to Norman Osborn as Norman is starting up a research facility with Oscorp and Osborn wants Conner to head up the department. Conner declines causing Osborn to be a little bit irritable as Osborn always get his man but Conner likes teaching.

Parker is also good friends with Norman's son Harry, who manages a coffee shop near the university. He also has a steady girlfriend in Gwen Stacy. His next door neighbor has gone to Hollywood, Mary Jane Watson. (she should only come in at the end of the 2nd movie!)

Essentially it should show the rise of the Green Goblin, a momentary villain in the Lizard but friend in Curt Conner, the steady relationship between Gwen and Peter, Peter's struggle with responsibilities along with Harry's responsibilities as an Osborn.

Key scenes should be Norman's...disapproval of Harry running a coffee shop as it is beneath him. Norman's growing insanity due to a botched break in to Conner's lab exposing him to some off chemical of the super human formula (which also causes Conner to become the Lizard as he is trying to regrow back his arm and is testing and working with the former super human formula that created Cap).

I think in the 2nd movie, Green Goblin is a manipulative force in all of this but is rarely seen on screen. He finds out who Spider - Man really is, and in the end kills not only Gwen Stacy in a scene where she is thrown off a bridge but also his own son, Harry as the Green Goblin (not Norman) believes he is not up to snuff to become the next great Osborn and when sending him to Europe for a 'business' trip, destroys the plane. It's a darker movie but I think at the end, Mary Jane Watson should show up at Gwen's funeral to support Peter and tell him that if he needs anything she'll help him as Gwen was her friend too. Peter also breaks down but it makes him more determined to be Spider - Man. As for the bad guys, I would think Mysterio and another few others should be used as well.

Revisiting the Norman Osbourne/Harry/Goblin story would be akin to every Superman that's been out (except Superman III) battling Lex Luthor or having Luthor involved. Been there, done that -- MOVE ON!

Yeah, I'm very curious to see what new ground this new reboot can cover. Sure, I had some problems with Raimi's movies, but his Spider-Man already dealt with Peter Parker in high school. Plus, the Peter/Norman/MJ triangle has already been done, so if they redo that then that's even less fresh ground they have to cover. I think Gwen Stacy will be thrown in there, but I just hope this new reboot brings a fresh perspective to the franchise... somehow.

The problem is, GG is the biggest of the big bad guys. I wish they could do Hulk personally but I think Raimi really messed up the dynamics of Harry and Norman.

Mechanical web shooters have their own way of connecting Parker with the audience.
They're also a major believability problem.

Set aside the idea of whether or not Peter is Reed Richards genius level.

Imagine you're Peter. You've just invented a sticky fluid that dissolved after an hour and a way to deliver said fluid. This has major industrial and military applications

What do you do?

You can patent it, let a company like OsCorp produce it, and get rich off the royalties. Your elderly aunt can live out her days in luxury in, say, Florida.

Or, you can decide to become a costumed super-hero, get the crap beat out of you on a regular basis, and let your elderly aunt continue to live her lower middle class lifestyle.

Tell me that Peter's not an idiot. :)

Sounds like over thinking to me. Like wondering why all the gadgets Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne use haven't changed society.
IIRC, the in-universe explaination is that the webbing disolved too quickly to be used as a commecial adhesive.

I'm not certain on a storyline or a cast, I don't know enough about the lore, but I'll just state that I am glad this franchise is not a part of the new Marvel line of movies, while neither is perfect, I think a few of us seem to be agreeing Sony's decisions suck and The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man were pretty decent flicks (even if they have their own flaws and issues). Them combining, would mean Sony has a say in what happens in the other movies, which would suck because the tonality, etc... would totally change... I mean, we wouldn't want Fox and their X-Men films (admittedly, I enjoyed them, but still...) being a part of this, would we?

I suppose, if we got an origin story (again...*sigh*) I wouldn't mind it being somewhat like Batman Begins, maybe not so dark per se (it works for Batman, don't get me wrong) but that the "origin" is a part of the story, why he does what he does, what makes him think to do it, etc... instead of a typical "twenty minutes in and they are the person now" setting with a couple scenes of the hero then lame ass struggle... (Did any of that make sense?)

It could do the origin sort of like Batman Forever through a series of flashbacks. Sort of to say, "Hey, we know he's a new actor, but he's still Bruce Wayne, and this is still how it all got started."

Ben's out pretty quick if its an origin. ;)

I wouldn't even have him in the movie. Just a reference.

He'd be pretty much needed for an origin though, at least the origins I had heard of, Uncle Ben played a part in him becoming Spiderman

No necessarily. As a reference possibly but not really an actor. A mention here or there.

But to me, Spider - Man has such a diverse universe that it's hard to nail down a reboot without getting too convoluted. Taking out Flash Thompson, the Bugle, Mary Jane, Ben Parker, and boiling it down to simply Peter Parker and his life would be an excellent movie.

But Flash, MJ, the Bugle ect; are what make Peter Parker's life what it is. What you seem to be suggesting would be a Spider-Man only movie.

I just hope they don't throw all the principal characters in there...keep MJ out. Keep Ben out. Hell keep the Daily Bugle out.

They already made Iron Man! :guffaw:

Seriously - I think keeping MJ out is going to be difficult. The first trilogy has established her (not to mention years and years in comics history that they are currently ignoring in the comic books) as the main Spidey girl. They can make her a bit player in the initial movie but not having her would just be weird.

Also several TV series have tried to play down Ben. So it's been done in other media. Why do that in the movies where you can actually keep it relevant and show it since there are no Y7 ratings on these movies.

Also, if they do that Avengers movie (including Spidey?) then it could be possible to have a movie after that that begins with no explanation and directly into the adventure. Otherwise will all new folks on board, I think the public might expect some amount of an origin...

^ As has been said before, the Avengers movie and the Spider-man series are coming from entirely different studios. Unless Disney (who now own Marvel) buy out Sony or the rights to the Spider-man movies, there will be no cross-over or correlation between the movies.

If they're going to do Spidey as a teenager I think it would be kind of funny to have a running gag throughout the movie where Aunt May tries to introduce Peter to her neighbour's niece and he keeps avoiding it until the last scene in the movie when he answers the door and we finally meet M.J. and get the famous line:
