I agree. I was recently talking to one of my friends and he said that true christians don't just say the words, they actually act like Christ taught them, his example was with gay people; True christians don't accept you because you are gay, they accept you because you are. Because you are a fellow human. You exist. If two men want to go get married, whatever, God is the only one who can marry you to anyone else so it is between them and God. No one else. Let him decide your fate, because we aren't qualified to judge. In this case, it doesn't matter why they had that earthquake. It's not up to us to judge whether they made a pact with the devil or not. They are hurt and suffering, we should follow Christ's teachings and be the good Samaritan and help them and their suffering. Like you said, be the hands and feet of christ, not the mouth. We are not qualified to judge. Leave that to God.

You are right on one point though. No Christian would ever make a pact with Satan.

See, that leaves you with an out. On the surface this simply means you agree with Locutus. However, it would also let you out if it turns out that the Haitians did "make a pact with Satan", because then it could be said that those who did were not Christians, and then you can just let your theology cover for you. That way, if you wish, you can still agree with Pat but look fair and balanced in comparison.

I never said I agreed with him. I simply understand why he would say what he said. That doesn't mean I'm on board with Pat at all, as much as some here believe might believe me to be.

Don't you people get it? The Haitians are all black, so therefore not real Christians like the kind one would find in say Texas; and because of their blackness, would be less intelligent and more prone to "making deal with devil" than a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant from say Georgia in the United States - GOD's country.

They think that a being is in charge who decides whether or not a natural disaster would happen. They think this being is a nice being who would only do a natural disaster if the people there deserved it, somehow, or to teach a needed lesson. The fact that the island exists where it does is actually caused by continental drift, but they call this a theory and they believe all scientific theories were put here by the friendly being to test our faith. So, they are usually able to justify the decision of this being within some superstitious context, and then they can rest easy, knowing that it won't happen to them. Sharon Stone said that China's quake was their bad karma coming back on them for the massacre of the Tibetan monks. Superstition has no party loyalty.

The truth is death is part of life. The truth is the most fertile soil is found on flood plains and the most beautiful scenery is in quake zones.

Unfortunately there are too many people in this world that DON'T ignore Pat Robertson. My inlaws were perfect examples. They swallowed everything he said hook, line and sinker. Believe me when i tell you it was extremely difficult to be around such ignorant people. It is a miracle that my husband didn't end up believing in all the shit they did (my father in law is still alive, hence, the bad relationship i have with him)....

And yes, anyone capable of giving any support should do so, just as they should in time of crisis for anyone.

Here's what you said:

Did the Haitians actually attempt to strike a deal with the devil? If so, I can see him making these comments. If they didn't it's a stupid thing to say. And the timing isn't that good either.

So, it's not a stupid thing to say if there was documentation to support his comments? How is that not approving of or agreeing with Robertson's comments?

For future reference, the correct answer is that blaming the tens or hundreds of thousands of dead and injured victims of a massive earthquake for the unprovable actions of their ancestors 207 years ago is ALWAYS STUPID, documented or not. It would continue to be stupid even if their ancestors had signed a pact with Satan. It would be stupid that anyone would worship a God who would punish the descendants of people who made a pact with Satan for 207 years culminating is a devastating earthquake.

I love that Satan is the villain of this piece as well, since as far as I can tell Robertson's only contention is that Satan helped the Haitians defeat Napoleon's forces. It's God that has been punishing all of the subsequent generations of Haitians who had nothing to do with the original deal. It's God that caused an earthquake that murdered tens of thousands of people and left hundreds of thousands injured and homeless in a predominately Christian nation. Yet Robertson, and you apparently, are perfectly fine worshiping a God who behaves in such a way.

Maybe you should email this to Pat and not to me? I just based my comments on his stated beliefs. It would NOT be stupid for him to say it, if, according to his beliefs, it was the case.

I have a friend who's a JETS fan and he swears they are going to beat the COLTS this weekend. Some might call that stupid as well, but not according to him. Oh wait....JETS beating the COLTS? Where have we seen THAT before????!!!

Just because he speaks from the perspective of being Christian (and did so in opposition to a very different brand of Christian teaching that Robertson espouses) doesn't mean he's saying charity and helping others are exclusively Christian traits.

I'm do not agree with his theology. I do believe however, that anyone who believes they are entering a pact with the devil is separated from God and is eternally out of the mix.
