O'Brien out, Leno back in?

The ONLY way this even remotely becomes Conan's fault is if he had some sort of ratings clause in his contract and wasn't meeting it, and decided to make a fuss about being replaced.
The big thing I heard this morning on the radio was that, while Conan's contract was indeed for The Tonight Show, is contract did not include anything about a specific timeslot for the show to air.

There is a such thing as breaking the spirit of an agreement while adhering to the letter of an agreement.

You can call it The Tonight Show if you want, but if you move it to 12:05 -- when it's no longer "tonight" -- then you're ruining the brand, and you're forcing the host to share the spotlight with the guy who's on at 11:35. And that's just not done.

Indeed. Since the word "night" is part of the title, it shouldn't air "the next morning".

Anywho. Wouldn't it be just super if Fallon and Daily walk too? They won't, being attention whores (and I know a thing or two about attention whores), but I really want a scorched Earth sort of situation out of all this. NBC would loose 3 shows because they moved one shitty show that no one watched back to it's old slot.

TMZ is reporting that too...they've had a pretty anti-Conan undertone to all their stories thus far, at least the ones that I have read.

NBC is also apparently putting the idea out there that Conan was completely inflexible when it came to notes and suggestions from the network brass regarding the Tonight Show...sorry guys, Conan beat you to the punch on the PR front, regardless of whatever legal grey area might exist with the timeslot...

And come on, can we really trust the leadership of the 4th place network to come up with splendid ideas for improving a show?

not to mention that once NBC realized what a mistake they were making by retireing him and gave him a primetime show, Leno's aging audience was thrilled to get an "earlier bedtime" which automatically crippled the real "Tonite Show's" ratings base off the bat

haha the only PR anyone wants to see out of NBC after this debacle is someone having the balls to offer up those execs heads on a platter and doing some "corporate restructuring"

Well, yeah, I agree. I'm just saying that that's one of the things NBC was using as an excuse.

So Conan watering down his show and humor was of his own doing because he didn't like the Masturbating Bear, Triumph or any of the other skits he's been doing since he started? :guffaw:

At least we see a real reason why NBC wants vanilla Leno back now.

I love Craig.
They [NBC] are lying rat bastards!
Do you know what school bullies do when they are older? Run NBC!

Craig was funny as hell, he really ripped into NBC. I think it was a record number of bleeped curses tonight. And don't forget that he had the puppet at the start call NBC Mother Fuckers...

Damn! I missed the first 2 minutes of the show. Craig should complain about the fact his hour long show is like 25 minutes long with the insane amount of commercials they add.

Fallon won't bail, but not because he's an attention whore -- rather, for the same reason that he hasn't commented on the situation on his show. He hasn't earned the right to enter the fray, and he's barely keeping his job as it is. I'm pretty sure Conan remembers not too long ago being in his position; would HE have jumped in on the Letterman / Leno mess? No, he wouldn't have, not when he was slick from the TV womb.

Fallon is the baby here, and by (wisely) staying out of the big boys' fight he can be neutral, not drawing ire from his employers and late night companions. The only jokes he should and will make are from his perspective, i.e. not sure when he'll be on, etc. He really just needs to find the coziest hole he can hide in and fucking stay there. He doesn't have Conan or Leno's clout, and he's not safely tucked away on another network where taking the pitchforks and torches to NBC's castle can only be encouraged.

Triumph's been on the new show, he was just on last week.

Got it. I assumed Triumph was one of the casualties since I DVRed and watched practically every episode during the summer new TV downtime and saw Triumph once in that span (at the music festival making fun of the hippies).

EDIT: Text updated to correct my bad memory.

I had heard that Conan's contract specifically said that his show could be moved back to 12:05 (but no later), but I doubt they're going to confirm it one way or the other.

If that were true, I'd suspect NBC would have already made that public in order to make it look like he was not living up to his contractual obligation.

I also heard that Conan would have the option of leaving his contract should that move be made, so it wouldn't be a clear case of violating a contract in either direction. It would merely be an indication that this move was already a consideration.

I too am with Coco...but I'm using the official Coco pic on my Facebook...needed something a little different for over here...

I'm not one who would be considered hip. I was against Conan taking over the Tonight Show when it was announced five years ago..but Conan had grown on me. I think LENO's humor is past its time (and letterman's too). So I am in with COCO...
