Spider Man Reboot - Your Cast & Plot?

The next Spider-Man film will be a reboot of the franchise, not a continuation of series Sam Raimi created back in 2002 — in a move similar to Batman Begins restarting the Batman franchise seven years after Batman and Robin underwhelmed fans and critics.
This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues. The decision to go with an origin story stemmed from Sony developing two Spidey projects simultaneously. According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. When it became clear that Raimi would not be able to make the summer 2011 release date planned for Spider-Man 4, the studio opted to scrap Spider-Man 4 altogether, and focus solely on the series reboot.
Who will helm the new film is anyone’s guess but with the studio interested in a more gritty, contemporary redo of the series, they are certainly focused on younger directors making waves in Hollywood. One name that has popped up is Marc Webb, the man behind (500) Day of Summer. He was previously in discussions with the studio to take over Moneyball, but that job went to Bennett Miller. Michael Bay has also previously expressed interest in taking over the Spider-Man franchise and Seabiscuit director Gary Ross worked on one of the drafts of Spider-Man 4 and is said to be a huge fan of the comic book series.

Done carefully :

Movies 1&2 - Each plot features three villains; One is already origined and active at movie start, someone like the Vulture who doesn't need a huge backstory. They are in a swoop and attack mode, messing things up on all sides. One develops in the foreground, main plot. One is affected by all the subplots and is a villain by story's end. Through each movie, we see the third one becoming in the far background, neglected by the other characters.

Peter is harassed by his brethren in the press concerning the parents he never knew having betrayed the country.

Movie 3 - Sinister Six, masterminded by the Parkers' framer, although he/she doesn't know the secret.

Like is often said, too many villains...but if only one was actively origined, the other was part of the film's infrastructure, and the other part of the background, you could have a viable S6 by Part 3.

Try to set up future villains better. Maybe make Eddie Brock the big bully of Midtown High (a guy even Flash Thompson finds too nasty) who also is Peter's jerk boss at the school paper (Peter is a high school photographer first, then competes with Brock for work at the Bugle), have Miles Warren as the ESU geneticist who works sometimes with visiting Florida professor Connors, maybe have Mary Jane or Gwen mention Roderick Kingsley and his fashion lines, etc.

I'd want to see the Green Goblin story done right. Right down to Gwen getting killed on the bridge. They did a version of this with Mary Jane (Who, of course, survived) in the first movie, so I doubt it would ever happen...

that was riffing on Ultimate Spider-Man's 'Power and Responsibility' arc, though...

Gary Ross as director I would buy...Pleasantville is one of my favourite films. I'm really hating this whole situation right now.

maybe this will be a new trend, say a studio has 10 years to release a franchised trilogy or even more sequels. Once the new decade rolls around, REBOOT!

Which is what i hope they kind of do with X-Men: First Class

With all the kids of today creaming their knickers over Twilight, and all the producers in Hollywood slapping any old vampire bullshit together, it won't surprise me if the villain in this will be Morbius

I am surprised nobody's mentioning that at long last we now have a chance to get a great Mary Jane Watson.

I want them to put both MJ and Gwen in the movie. Maybe make it all Gwen with after credits appearance of MJ Watson with the classic line.

I also wouldn't mind "mixing" some of the things from Ultimate Spider-man. (Except for the fact that in Ultimate Spidey, Peter and MJ are childhood friends). Introduce Kong and Flash Thompson.

And begin the second movie with the same line and just continuing from there. And in the second movie, have the classic Gwen falls of Brooklyn bridge sequence at the ending and thereby leading to Peter and MJ being more together. So Goblin needs to be there for the second movie.

And how come Spider-man never gets to battle a giant spider? If Superman needed to battle a giant spider, then how much more sense does it make for Spidey to fight a giant spider?

Not too sure about the main villain for #1 tho'. Perhaps Lizard makes sense.

If I were in charge? I wouldn't make the movie at all until at least 2014. This instant reboot nonsense strikes me as bad business.

Logan Lerman should play Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He's 17, so perfect age for Sony's "high school" Spidey.

Never heard of him, but...even better than Maguire in terms of looks (how I've always envisioned ole Petey).

Portia Doubleday (Youth in Revolt) would make a great Mary Jane Watson or Gwen Stacy.
More Mary Jane, I'd say. I've always thought of Gwen as more the Amanda Seyfried type.

Oddly enough, her sister Kaitlin Doubleday is a pretty good Gwen.
