Your Dream Car?

^
Gotta stick with mine.

I would take the Porsche over the Gallardo anytime. The Gallardo looks like it belongs in a boutique - or on the street in front of the boutique so everybody can admire what a pretty car you've got; the Porsche looks like it wants to get on the race track ASAP.

I have my things I guess. Like my hate for Volvos.

I get that Porsche is very proud of the look of it and it's supposed to very aerodynamic, but something about it rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's the fact that if you're rich, you have to have a Porsche and then just drive around in the city with it. stuff like that hurts us guys who actually use their cars.

I'm just saying I'd rather buy a lesser performing Corvette then a 911 since the Vette is more my kind of car.

EDIT: The Gallardo is sex! It's ludicrious Italian overpriced sex, but still sex. On wheels!

And like the 911, a Corvette hasn't radically changed in appearance in 42 years, since the introdruction of the C3 in 1968.

My dream modern car is a 2-door Yaris. My dream car of all time is a 1971-1975 Super Beetle.

Interesting, because the 1971/1972 Super Beetles have a flat windshield, while the 1973 and later are curved.

Then, there's the German Look Supers!
95 Mazda Protegé

This is what I currently drive. Considering the less-than-minimal amount of maintenance I've engaged in, the fact that it's still on the road is sort of amazing, and a testament to the totally decent quality of these cars.

My 1996 Protege was one of the best cars I ever owned. It's one I wished I'd never traded.

Weeeeell, I'd say if you said C4 I'd be inclined to agree. The C3 is more of a crossing over generation. Incidentally my favorite looking Corvette generation.
^If you want a new one with a V8, wait until the 2011 model and you get the new 5.0 liter V8 with 420hp and better mileage then the current V8. If you want a V6 you should still wait since it's getting a way better one as well that I can't remember the specs for in my head, but more power and better mileage as well in that.
Is that still having to do with the pact Japanese automakers made back in the day about limiting the power output of their cars? I know that applied to 90s Supras and R34 Skylines? Considering that new Skyline in the States in dressed up as a Infiniti G35
Possibly. What I heard was that if you use the launch control like it's supposed to work (i.e. launching the car from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds) it's breaks the gearbox or something. And even if it doesn't, as soon as you push the button you void the warranty.

I mention it, because I remember that Toyota purposefully gimped the Twin Turbo Supras so they would only make 325 hp. Mazda gimped the RX7 to only 255 hp. And Nissan gimped the R34 Skyline GTR to 325 hp.

All 3 cars were factory capable of a lot more.
Sorry skipped this earlier somehow. But my comment is this:

How very....Japanese of them.

'67(C2) to the '68(C3) was the last "drastic change" in the overall look and shaping of the car.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on either car. I've driven my fair share of Corvettes over the years, (ZR1 still the favorite), I just found in funny that your complaint of the 911 "looking the same" and your comparison to a Corvette.

The point is, when you've got an "super car" there's something to be said about evolution over revolution.

EDIT: The Gallardo is sex! It's ludicrious Italian overpriced sex, but still sex. On wheels!

I disagree. Italian cars are sexy when they are ugly and pointy and look like they could fall apart any second, not when they look German.

i will stick with my '67 vette as my dream car, but if it had been top-3 the lp-400 and f-40 would have been the next 2 in line!

I still think there's a bit of difference between C3 and C4, while from C4 onwards it's very much a similar car, biggest case in point being the latest switch.

It's just that the 911 the difference is like almost C4 to C6, it's a very small difference.

I kinda figured out finally what bugs me about the 911. It's very German. Very few German cars get my heart beating, Audi R8 is one (at least stylingwise). I'm just more of a American car guy, more of a muscle car guy then a super car guy.

I don't want the greatest performing thing on the road. If I wanted that I'd get a motorcycle. I want to recapture the magic of my youth riding with dad in his old american muscle cars with rumbling V8s and lots of burnt rubber. But I don't want to lose the sportyness of my Saab so the Vette works for me, as does the new Camaro.

But isn't a lot of fun to be able to discuss this? :D

Well the Countach is a classic, no denying that! The F40...I'm just more a Lambo guy when it comes to Italian cars. That being said the F40 looks rather cool.
I ride a bicycle and would continue to do so even if I won the lottery.
So let you don't drive, and yet you've on several occasions jibed about me liking American cars? I rest my case.

EDIT: Okay so bro is trying to figure what car he wants for a first car. We've found nice alternative with the older Saab 9-3 Coupe Aero, but what he really wants is RWD. So this is the list:

RWD
Coupe
Decent power at least
Reliability
Not costing an arm and a leg to buy
Manual
Works in winter

Any suggestions?

i drove an '81 vette for several years, and i too would call the C3 a generation of its own. on the outside its not that far of a leap to the C4, but the construction and tech was completely changed from C3-C4

Yeah I was rich I know a number of cars I'd buy him. But first of all I wouldn't just buy him his first car, he'd have to earn it, and secondly he's not going to have a 300+ horsepower car as his first car. That's a recipy for disaster.

I'm trying to get him to see that the aforementioned Saab 9-3 Coupe is a great starting car, but he's persisting with RWD. I'm gonna try and get him to see that FWD is acceptable and a Saab is a great first car. It's great car, period.

I'm not talking about tech, I'm talking about pure looks alone.
