Ginger complaints

I don't think I've ever understood this.

How is being a redhead any different than being anyone else? I've never, ever heard of a defining line based on hair color. This is just.........weird.

And let's not start the pro/anti American/Brit thing again, okay? The only true difference between us is our accents. Even then, we have the deep South to combat your Welsh. So, going down that road of debate just exposes the cultural insecurities of both sides...

I think the thing is that red hair does stand out more than other hair colours, also there are statistically far fewer red haired people than others. It's just another form of bullying like picking on people because of colour, sexuality, gender, skinniness, fattness etc etc...

At the end of the day people with ginger hair do get a lot of stick about this but most, like our Ms Tate, can turn it to their advantage. Her hostel for gingers is hilarious.

"What do you know about suffering, you're not even ginger you're strawberry blonde!"

Personally I have nothing at all against redheads...quite the reverse in fact!

On a somewhat related note, are there any notable ginger actors in Britain who would make a good ginger Doctor, if the Doctor was to ever be (finally!) ginger? :D

The only Ginger actors i can think of is Damian Lewis and Sam Aston who plays Chesney Battersby.

Are there hordes of angry girls out there too because 11 seemed to express relief that he wasn't a girl?

That settles it -- Doc #12 has to be a female ginger. :klingon:
Let the casting rumours begin! ;)

It seems to me that it's a peculiarly English thing; maybe because red hair is associated with celtic lineage (notably Scottish and Irish).

Not just English, Aussies seem to have it as well... "He beat me like a red headed step-child" was a saying I first heard on an Aussie soap.

As far as I remember the kids picking on ginger kids at school knew nothing of celts, they just thought the ginger kids smelled of piss and/or were poor and dirty.

I've always ever gotten compliments and comments of envy from people regarding my hair. Admittedly, it's been trying to turn more brownish-blond than the strawberry it used to be (and more orange it was as a child)... I've been known from time to time to, erm, enhance the color of my hair because I love being a redhead so much and often feel like my natural color has become far too dull with age. (and I'm not even quite 25 yet!)

BTW, LOVE that Catherine Tate sketch. OMG, so funny!

Well that is the crazy thing, despite how reviled (apparently) redheads are, many women go out of their way to become red heads.

As for a ginger Doctor, Paul Kaye anyone?

I think Rupert Grint would be great, one day, needs a few more years on him yet...although he's probably not that much younger than Smith...

I wonder if the ginger comment is a shoutout to Murray Gold (who's ginger IIRC) or someone else RTD knows.

^ Wasn't that the cause of a Christmas card controversy?

I wonder if that women who got Tesco to remove a Christmas card from its stores on the grounds it was offensive to red heads has anything to do with this.
Wait...what happened? :wtf:
Here ya go...
That's the most ridiculous thing I think I've ever seen. Are we sure this isn't a Weekend Update story? Yikes.

Yeah, that's pretty freaking absurd. I rather have Mary Whitehouse resurrected and complain than this silly woman. I could at least understood where Whitehouse was coming from, even if I completely disagreed.

Good lord, did you have to jump to the Who equivalent of a Godwin?
