Taking down the tree....

This afternoon we took down the Christmas tree as well as during the past couple of days many of the household decorations and outdoor lights were put away. All that remains now are two lighted wreaths and the lighted reindeer on the front of the house.

I know these things have to come down, but I always find it a little sad when decorations are put away and the tree comes down. :(

I was really surprised by little miss trampledamage at Christmas (she's just turned 5), once Christmas Day was over she wanted to know when the tree would come down since it wasn't Christmas any more. So we decided on doing a big "take the tree down" activity for New Year's Day. And the only thing that bothered young master trampledamage (about to turn 3) was making sure he said goodbye to his new snowman ornament, once he said goodbye he was quite happy for it to go in the decorations box.

I was worried both of them would be against taking the tree down.

I leave the tree up through Epiphany (Jan 6th). Don't make a big deal of the day, but that's the real "close of the Christmas season" for me.

My neighbors all made fun of me one year when I failed to drag the tree out to the curb for pickup until Easter (it was early that year!) so I try to get it down by Feb now . . .

I always find it sad to take it down - that I seem expected to do it myself makes me all the more intransigent! Mr. OldstRedShrtEvr does put it up so I suppose all is fair!

It's funny, historically I've always been the one who wanted to take the tree and decorations down the weekend after New Year's Day. But, for some reason this year we decided to leave the tree and the poinsettias up for 1 more week. It's just so pretty and makes us both feel so warm and festive. Plus, it still smells wonderful and hasn't started dropping any needles yet. ;)

My birthday is Jan 4, so my parents (and now my husband) let me keep things up until Jan 5, Epiphany. Conversely, we generally do not put Christmas stuff up until the weekend or so before Christmas. Most of my neighbors seem to de-Christmas on New Year's Day.

I usually take the decorations down on the 2nd of January. This year, I did it today, the 3rd. For a couple of years I didn't put up decorations because I found the house too dismal afterwards. But I've got over that now. Now, I like the way the house looks without the decorations, it's back to its minimalist self.

Sad? I had to listen to Christmas carols on the drive back from Queenstown at the request of my daughter on January 2nd.

Now THAT's depressing!

I put my tree up on the 1st December and take it down on Ist January.

Wow, your tree's been up a whole month! My tree went up on Christmas Eve, so it was only up a little over a week. Next year, I'm going to make the effort to have it up longer, but maybe not as long as you, Miss Chicken. :)

Meh. I dont even decorate for Christmas. I dont usually feel very festive during Christmas. I used to love it. But the older I got the less I cared about the season. Now the only holiday I decorate for is Halloween.

hehehe.. We put up the tree and all the decorations the day before the first advent (end of november) and it is still up. Usually I don't put up the tree until Lucia (13th of december) but we wanted kiddo to be able to participate.

I love christmas and my decorations and it has not driven AngryAngel quite batty yet, so I am in no rush.. but traditionally it all goes down on january 6th..

My tree is now down. All that's left is a big space in the living room, waiting to be filled by something or someone.

I normally take the thing down on January 6th, as seems to be the tradition over here, but seeing as I won't have time to do so that day, and seeing as David Tennant no longer graces the BBC One idents anymore, I think now is as good a time as any. :bolian:

I don't put up a tree at all specifically because you have to take it down. Pain in the ass.

When I had roommates couple years ago, we put up a tree, and we were too lazy to take it down so it stayed up for another 6 months. The only reason we took it down at all was because we were moving.

The Christmas season does not end until January 8th, aka Colonel Green's birthday. ;)

I take the opposite approach - Christmas doesn't start until after the 10th because that's little miss trampledamage's birthday and has to end before the 15th of January because that's young master trampledamage's birthday. I want their birthdays to be just about them, not Christmas.

Tree always goes down on Jan 6 for me, though I do start putting away ornaments a few days before. I have a lot, so that takes time!

I hate this time of the year. I get pretty depressed until Easter! Everything is so dull after New Year's. I don't like Valentine's Day.

Took mine down today. I usally take it down on the 2nd, but was busy yesterday.

Living room looks so plain tonight :(

I generally prefer leaving the tree and a few things until Jan. 6th. It's generally done on a weekend after New Year's anyway so I wouldn't have minded keeping up for another week.

I'm not for putting the tree up any earlier than two weeks before Christmas, around mid December. Other decorations and outdoor lights can start going up in early December, but I don't want to see anything before December 1st.

I'm not keen on hearing any Christmas music before December, but then I don't mind hearing a few until New Years Day.

Now it's the slog until spring. Valentine's Day isn't a real holiday anyway, particularly if you have no one to snuggle with.
