Half remembered film... anyone hazard a guess?

My Mum half remembers a film she watched a while back. The only thing she can remember about it is that it had a guardian angel sitting on a tree, talking to the person he was guardian angel for occasionally.

We know it's not "It's A Wonderful Life", but a google search comes up with nothing much... anyone have any idea what the film might be?

Thanks in advance, and sorry I can't give you much to go on!

No to both, but thanks for the help. It was a black and white film. We thought it may've been "On Borrowed Time" (1939). The "angel" was actually Death in that film. However it's probably not as the angel was chatting with the person, probably giving advice...

Does she recall Cary Grant, by chance?

Might have been Topper...or maybe The Bishop's Wife? Cary Grant plays an ghost in the first one, and an angel in the second.

Sounds like it might've been Bishop's Wife... the particular remembered part is that the angel is sitting with one leg up on the tree, the other leg dangling off it. She thinks he was wearing a suit.

Meet Joe Black, Dogma and Wings of Desire are all in colour so I don't think it's them. But thanks! :D

I'm quite sure that Himmel uber Berlin/Wings of Desire is black and white. But I'd suppose you'd notice if it was in German. Unless it was dubbed.

Yep, it's in black-and-white. I have no idea whether it was dubbed or subtitled. I only never really saw the German version.
