Top 5 TNG

Dukat

Ensign
Newbie
I know this is a hard task, but let's try it...
If you had to select the five greatest episodes from TNG, which one would you choose?

My ranking
1) ''Clues'' (4.14)
2) ''Yesterday's Enterprise'' (3.15)
3) ''Tapestry'' (6.15)
4) ''The Inner Light'' (5.25)
5) ''Q Who?'' (2.16)

Each episode is outstanding.
To me it was very surprising that ''The Best Of Both Worlds, Part 1'' didn't make it into Top5. I would place that one right behind ''Q Who?''
It was also surprising that there are two Q-episodes in my top 5 and only one borg-episode, although I like borg-episodes more than Q-episodes. ;)

Nice to see "Clues" getting some love. I didn't really appreciate it the first few times I saw it, but was really impressed during a re-watch. I think it has one of the most creative twists in all of Star Trek, and one so sneaky it's easy to forget so that if I don't watch it for awhile, I can be surprised and amazed all over again when I do.

This is just a rank off the top of my head but here goes....

1. Best of Both Worlds I
2. The Wounded
3. Inner Light
4. Conspiracy
5. The Survivors

Wow that was tough. Aske me on a different day and you would probably get a different list. The one that really isn't negotiable for me is Best of Both Worlds I. That was about as good as it gets. I remember watching the episode and not knowing it was the season cliffhanger....I got to the end when Riker says "Fire".....and basically screamed "No!" when I realized I had to wait until the fall to see the end.

I'm always amazed at TNG top lists. When reading almost anything on the internet, it's tough enough to get any two posters to agree on anything it seems.

Yet with TNG greatest lists, despite the different tastes and opinions, generally everyone pretty much agrees.

I like that. :techman:

For me, today it would be:

- Best of Both Worlds (if I can't have them both as one, the first part will do nicely)
- The Defector
- Tapestry
- The Inner Light
and, umm...
today it's Parallels. :)

Too Much Fun: When it comes to creative twists ''Remember Me'' (4.05) suddenly crosses my mind. How did you like that one? I really enjoyed it.

Jbarney: Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to get the Best Of Both Worlds-cliffhanger-feeling. I watched this intriguing masterpiece for the first time on video. There was no break. But I can imagine how it must have felt to listen to Riker's "Mr. Worf...FIRE!!!'' and then have to wait a couple of months for the continuiation. IMO this was the most thrilling cliffhanger of all, wasn't it? (DS9's ''A Call To Arms'' was also very thrilling)

Not in order:
Frame of Mind
Firstborn (the best Klingon episode ever and perhaps the most underrated episode in the franchise)
BoBW
AGT
Cause And Effect

I'm not sure if these are really the best episodes in the series. The list would probably change if I really thought about it.

The Best of Both Worlds
Chain of Command
The Wounded
The Inner Light
Tapestry

That's at least how I decided today, next time I might list The Measure of A Man or The Defector instead.

*Parallels
*Conspiracy
*Arsenal of Freedom
*Code of Honor
*The Schizoid Man

These are off the top of my head...there are a couple of others from other seasons I enjoy.

:wtf:

Yep, Code of Honor is a pretty good episode I think...:)

*I like the idea of the Ligonians; I hope they will be explored further in a novel
*Lutan was overly dramatic and hilarious in some ways; he was also smart, having two attractive women fight over him...(Of course, that backfires...and Yareena wins everything).
*Yareena was sexy
*Yar was also sexy; and it was cool because it was a Yar-centric episode

On that same note, I think 'Darmok' is silly and overrated....and I think 'Inner Light' is boring and overrated...

We Trek fans are a diverse bunch, aren't we?;)

In no particular order:

- Data's Day
- Clues
- Cause and Effect
- Frame of Mind
- In Theory

Oddly enough, I never cared that much for the character of Data, but I really thought the writers came through with some outstanding stories for him.

I haven't seen that one in awhile. It's one of those episode I skip when re-watching the series, but I'm thinking maybe I should give it another look based on your recommendation. I recall finding it rather hokey. I wish I could be into it because I like the character of Dr. Crusher a lot and would have loved to enjoy more episodes centered around her, but unfortunately I think most of those are really bad. I also can't stand The Traveler and on principle skip all episodes he's involved in.

It's hard for me to make a top 5, because I'm so torn about "Deja Q". For about 99% I think it's a perfect episode with terrific performances and dialogue, but then Corbin Bensen shows up and ruins the ending. I hate his Q character and performance so much. My other favourites are:

1) The Best of Both Worlds
2) Yesterday's Enterprise
3) The Measure of a Man
4) The Hunted

Pretty standard list, other than "The Hunted", I guess. I never see people praise that episode, but I love it. I think the guest star gives an excellent performance and plays one of their best, most interesting, and underrated one-shot characters, and his interactions with Data, Worf, and Troi are really fun.

Other episodes I might stick in the 5th spot are "Cause and Effect", "Time Squared", "Lower Decks", "The Offspring", "The Inner Light", "All Good Things...", "Lessons", and "Attached". Those are some of the ones I find most moving and exciting almost equally. I'm not sure about the last spot, but I'm pretty sure that top 4 will always stay the same. Those 4 episode never cease to enthrall me, no matter how many times I see them.

I was tempted to put Frame of Mind and Cause And Effect on my list, but decided to go with other episodes. They are definately in my top 10 and depending on the day, could be in my top five. Frame of Mind was an excellent episode.

in no particular order

"darmok"
"where no one has gone before"
"best of both worlds, part 1"
"reunion"
"the survivors"

Oh, no particular order here, but my favorites would have to be

-- Timescape
-- Cause and Effect
-- All Good Things
-- Tapestry
-- Gambit

The Measure of a Man
The Inner Light
BOBW
Q Who
Parallels

(but the 5th spot is quite likely to change around between Parallels, Cause and Effect, I, Borg etc *g*)

I'm not sure if Clues works on multiple viewings. I find it a bit overrated actually because you know what's going to happen, and I felt Stewart actually overacted the whole theme of "clues" like he was reminding us every few minutes that "clues are meant to be solved." I still like it for what it is, but It's not nearly the best season 4 had to offer.

As for my top 5, I'm doing 5 episodes that barely get a mention because they are still awesome and need to be mentioned more.

The Ensigns of Command
The Hunted
The Nth Degree
Ship in a Bottle/Elementary Dear Data (They go together)
Thine Own Self

Ok. Well this is gonna be fun =)

1. The Child
2. The Best of Both Wolds Part 1
3. The best of Both Worlds Part 2
4. Data's Day
5. The Game
