Would Arrex and M'ress work in a sequel?

I really like Keenser and I wouldn't want anyone else taking away any of his future screen time, so pass on these TAS characters.

I liked Keenser too. Just cute enough, and just enough lines to keep him out of the Jar Jar territory.

I would like to see him return for the next movie, if just for a little bit of play with Scotty. I also want the action figure too.

Keenser is not on Jar-Jar's level...

Neelix, however....:p

Anywho, I would welcome M'Ress and Arex, if their roles were relevant to the story....

Yes, yes and yes to both.

Is it too much to ask for an Alien that actually could look like an ALIEN and not just be a stuck in the background character with no dialogue and little screen time? I want more in my Trek aliens than just a very human looking character with :eek:FFAAKKEE:eek: CGI big eyes.

I'd settle for more recognisable aliens. Green chicks are cheap and easy to do but they're not classic Trek alien crew. I don't mind random aliens appearing in DS9 but I'd rather see Federation members appearing in Starfleet. Let's have some Andorians, Caitians, and Tellarites. Since they've done the work on the spookily similar alien that wasn't Arex in ST09 I'm sure it wouldn't cost much to feature him/her/it again.

M'Ress and Arex would easily work as cameos. It's a big bridge with lots of duty stations. They can be there without having to really do or say much and avoid the whole Jar Jar phenomena.

I am in favor of Arex & M'ress appearing in XII.
It will give the fans a great chance to whine about how they changed them, destroyed them and what expectations they didn't meet.

It'll be awesome :bolian::p

I guess if they were CGI or if they were people in suits, that might make a difference. I'm not keen on either, though.

Oh come on, Arex would be better then Jar-Jar and he's smarter too. Bill Crudup can be his voice if Ackroyd is busy playing Yogi Bear.

Who could play every fanboy's feline dreamgirl M'ress? they need some sleek and sexy actress who is talented and can handle wearing make-up from Rick Baker.

Yeah, but then he did the weird purr/sigh that people seemed to chuckle at at most of the showings I went to.
I didn't notice that happening when I saw it in the theater, but it's not hard to imagine people reacting that way. Still, even if he had been present strictly for comic relief, I think Keenser fell well short of the sort of over-the-top buffoonery that was Jar Jar's shtick. Different league, altogether.

Well he's the straight man for Simon Pegg's Scotty. The Gromit to his Wallace. The Silent Bob to his Jay, if you will. You got the impression that he was singlehandedly keeping that station in working order while Scotty moped and complained.

Jar Jar Binks, was the most offensive marketing ploy/racial caricature of the last century (Revenge of the Fallen not withstanding). Even the special effects guys who designed the detestable creature couldn't figure out why/how Lucas ever thought he was a good idea.

The fact that people enjoyed and are defending Keenser makes him lightyears ahead of JarJar. So long as they use him sparingly, and don't give him too much dialogue he'll be fine.

And there's plenty of room on that massive new ship for more than one alien (Spock is no longer the only one on the bridge either). I kind of have a hard on to see a total CG alien crewmember, anyways (wearing red shirt, manning a console, running down the corridor-- basically used as an extra much like the background aliens in XI). It might as well be Arex.

CG would probably be the best way to make him look 'alien', but Aschloss (or whatever her name was) on the Kelvin looked great. I think CG would be required if they want him to walk anywhere.

There was a "Who's Who" Trek comic years and years ago with a pic of Arex running though a battlefield, carrying an unconcious Uhura (at least I think it was Uhura, it was a long time ago) with two arms while shooting with his third. That's a sight i'd love to see in STXII (against armies of trenchcoated mask-wearing Klingons)

Keener is NOTHING like Jar-Jar Binks in Star Wars.

I liked Keenser too. He seemed really attached to Scotty and was his right hand man on Delta Vega. I assume Keenser did all of the station' maintenance and repairs. He hardly said two words. His gestures were more expessive than anything he actually said. The little chirp/purr sound he made was interesting. I don't understand all of the hate for Keenser. I was laughing at the scene where is with Scotty in the Enterprise's engine room. I hope he appears in the next film and interacts with Scotty a little more. :guffaw:

Jar-Jar was meant by Lucas to be the equivalent of the 'wise fool' of classical literature, the bumbler who sounds like a silly moron that nobody cares about, but who actually does something important in the end (in Jar Jar's case, he tells Amidala that she should rely on her people, and herself, to liberate Naboo, and not on anything the Senate can do, which is why she goes back and enlists the Gungans to fight alongside her security troops.) So yes, Jar-Jar may not seem important, but at the end, he is important-in his own clumsy way, or course.

My thesis is based on this treatise: Why I Love The Phantom Menace-IV. Crush Us, Grind Us into Little Pieces, and Blast Us into Oblivion:The Characters

But then, in Episode 2 it was Jar Jar who made the move to give Palpatine emergency powers to override the senate, which was basically step one in Palpatine's plan to create the Empire and become Emperor.

The Empire is Jar Jar's fault.

No, it isn't: Jar Jar & Amidala were played like puppets on strings by Palpatine, who had orchestrated the war and the trade crisis, and had also manipulated what happened to Valorum so that he would be voted out by Amidala in a no confidence vote (which she did in anger at Lodd Dott being listened to by Valorum and not bothering to anything about Naboo-so in a sense she's the responsible one.) Nobody really knew what Palpatine had caused.
