Star Trek XI Action Figures

Well that kind of stinks,oh well. I guess have to wait for awhile on some of those figures. Its just I want to collect some stuff from the movie like I'm doing with the TOS. TOS and this movie are my favorites. I'm still collecting the figures from TOS, I have Kirk & Spock and plan on getting the rest of the crew. I like to do the same for this movie. I have Kirk,Spock,McCoy,Sulu and plan on getting Pike and Spock Prime. I was hoping they release Scotty,Chekov and Uhura of those. I guess I just have to wait awhile.

^ What makes you think Playmates wouldn't have done this? Take a look at the hundreds of Trek figures that Playmates belched onto toy shelves during the '90s. And the TMNT figures.

According to the Art Asylum Trek blog, there are definitely plans to produce 3 3/4 TOS figures in conjunction with Playmates but everthing is dependent on retail interest. If Trek fans show no interest, retailers will show no interest, and the line will never happen. Same holds true for NuTrek line I suppose, particularly since the first wave was over-produced. Interestingly, the screaming TWoK Kirk was rejected by many retailers and then sold out at TRU and is now probably quite valuable. Retailers aren't necessarily in tune with the fans.

Personally I'd love it if they produced a set of 30th anniversary TMP figures with bridge set but I'm a bit of a TMP whore so that's no surprise.

Playmates at least stuck to characters that were prominent in an episode or movie with their 90s line. We didn't have action figures of Mr. Leslie or Chief Engineer Argyle. No Lt. Commander George Primmin or Captain Robert DeSoto.

I dunno, I see Star Trek (2009) Playmates toys all over the place whenever I go to a Target.

Must be a regional thing: the local Target here has no Trek items at all while WalMart has a nice selection.

I don't buy any simply because they don't look very good. I got my kids a phaser that gets a lot of use, though. My son chases the dogs around, shooting them and yelling "ZAP-ZAP! ZAP!"

Joe, ZAPped

^That's funny. I have a phaser that is kept in a drawer beside the TV. It is used by anyone to shoot at the TV when someone or something pisses them off. Last week, my youngest daughter pulled it out and shot me. It was late and she wanted to go out somewhere, I don't remember where - I said no - so I was shot.

Hehe!!! Thats pretty funny!!

I was in the Fourth Circle of Hell yesterday (Walmart) and they had the Spock 12" figure/doll. It was the first time i had seen it. It looked a lot like Quinto, and it had a replaceable hand doing the Vulcan hand sign. I thought that was fun! The Nero one wasn't too bad, but the Kirk one was awful. It didn't look anything like Pine.

It isn't just Playmates that's been having problems. Hasbro has had less than spectacular sales with G.I. Joe and Transformers too and toy sales in general have been kind of soft this year.

Yeah, the thing is that while GI Joe and Transformers are still cluttering the shelves (Wolverine too), Trek figures are nowhere to be seen.

I had a feeling that the Trek line was going to pull an Indiana Jones.

I dunno. I haven't been to a TRU in a while, but with Wal-Mart, Trek toys were gone by June. Targets have been hit-or-miss, but within the last three months, I haven't seen anything, while the other properties I mentioned are still there. I am surprised that there wasn't a "re-release" of the toys in Wal-Mart/Target type stores in conjunction with the DVD release considering the movie's popularity.

I had to order my 6" Uhura on ebay because I stupidly did not buy her in the store, passing her over for McCoy at the time. Now she is totally unavailable here and I'm paying overseas postage. Still don't have them all because the Kirk looks SO bad I figured I would just get Wave 2.. and now I read here this may never happen!

I do miss Art Asylum!

Anyone else think Hasbro should have been given the license to make the figures?

OH, HELL NO!
Why? Hasbro's stuff, apart from some Transformers, are only mediocre or sub par. Look at the crappy Star Wars figures they make? Each Luke looks like a monkey with feathered hair, I've yet to see a Leia that does not look like a man, and Padme looks more like Anakin's mother.
And those are just a few of the bad ones. Plus I seen alot of the newer figures with limited articulation in favor of some silly gimmick that does not even work right...I remember seeing a few Vaders that have Barbie style articulation in the elbows....ie, none.

I say have companies that make GOOD figures to do Trek....Art Asylum and Character Options (Check out the classic Dr. Who figure line they got going. And Character Options, bring the damned figures here to te US, you bastards, we got a good sized fan base. Plus you are bringing in these cheesy Trek09 & Terminator figures through Playmates, only fair you send us some of your stuff.) make awesome stuff. They made good figures at decent prices. :bolian:

Anyone else apart from me that think the new Kirk figures all look like Wally from Leave it to Beaver? :borg:

Also, Revoltech and Figma makes great Japanese figures, which I think outta come here to the states as well, could make some good Trek figures if they tried. :D

Target seems to have a policy regarding movie tie-in toys, especially if people stop buying them after awhile. Many of them got rid of their Star Trek inventory by reducing the price on everything by at least 50% (if not more in some areas). But some Target stores here and there may still have Trek toys on the shelves...

It may only be a matter of time before Wal-Mart moves 'em to the clearance aisles though...

Hopefully a company like Art Asylum will put out some premium statues or figures for Star Trek (XI).

I would guess probably not until this movie series is over. I suspect that Playmates will still retain the rights for the "new stuff". This is all just speculation on my part.

I'm sure there's a clause in the contract that says something to the effect that if Playmates doesn't produce products for a certain period of time, the contract lapses. Since Playmates has put any future Trek products on hold, the contract could end sooner.

I am think it is on hold for Trek XI, but when Trek XII comes along, they'll release a line of figures, but do it differently for better profit. Again, pure speculation.
