Easy things you suck at doing

Opening and closing screw-top lids. Even though I know (finally - that took a lot of years!) which way the top should go to either open or close, I still get it wrong.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

Yeah, it was Catherine Willowes saying that on CSI which finally got it stuck in my head. But if I just go to open or close something I do it the wrong way. I have to stop and think and start again.

Cooking, whistling, taking verbal instructions without saying "what?" 3+ times and rolling cigarettes/joints (my thumb is messed up and won't bend into the positions it needs to, so I have an excuse).

Hand me a map, ask me how to get from point A to point B. Prepare to be lost for the rest of the day.

I suck at Math. I can't do it in my head and it takes ages to do it on paper. I can't work out what the tip is on a bill or figure out the sales tax without a calculator.

Take the first number on the bill (or first two numbers if it's over $100) and double it. It'll be close enough.

So if the bill is $30.00, double the 3 and leave $6.

If the bill is $150.00, double the 15 and leave $30.

20% is a pretty damn generous tip. I generally go for 10-15%, depending on quality of the service. Then again, the USA tends to be more generous when it comes to tipping.

I struggle to do pointless admin work. So many people I work with do it, even though they recognise it's pointless, and say that it's not difficult or even too time-consuming and besides "it's policy/protocol". I guess that's true, but when I come across paperwork that I personally consider pointless and in my opinion doesn't add value to the appropriate/safe outcome of a case, I just don't do it, regardless of anything else.

The weird thing is, although I get occasional reminders, nobody ever really forces me to do it... so I don't actually get why others do it in the first place... Sure, it's easy enough and probably is only an extra 5 minutes or so work, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Not to turn this into yet another thread about tipping, but 20% is pretty much standard (or should be) in the USA. Then again, most servers in the US make significantly less than minimum wage...so there ya go.

I can't blow bubblegum bubbles. At least, not ones bigger than a cubic inch or so.

I came in to say that I can't snap, but after reading the thread I'm sort of afraid to now :p

I have absolutely no idea how to snap my fingers. I don't know the muscle movements you have to make. How do you hold your fingers? What do you do with them? I must have missed the memo...

I dunno. I hold my thumb and my middle finger together and then just kind of, um, snap them...? My middle finger kind of slides down the side of my thumb, but you have to do it very quickly.

Unable to:

Make bubbles with bubble gum.

That really loud way of whistling with fingers in your mouth

Bad striking matches, especially the paper ones. At one point I had to strike paper matches every day and had to use a wood coffee stirrer to keep them from bending.

Seeing anything in those "3D" pictures where you're supposed to focus behind the picture.

But I have no trouble:

Pursed lip whistling

Snapping fingers (both hands)

Rolling tounge (I've heard this may have a genentic link)

Vulcan salute (either hand)

Crossing eyes

Ring finger against the top of the pad of flesh at the base of thumb.

Middle finger TIGHT against edge of thumb towards index finger.

Position of index finger not real important. I usually hold it straight like I'm pointing at something.

Pull middle finger hard across the thumb and downwards against ring finger. The SNAP is produced by the inpact of the middle finger against the ring finger.

It might take a little practice

My ring finger doesn't ever touch my middle finger when I do it. My middle finger comes down against the base of my palm.

Hold the match sideways so it doesn't bend when you strike it. Don't even need to press it hard against the striker, just fast. If need be, put your index finger behind the match head.

This totally works! Okay, I have like a 90% success rate with my right hand and 50% with my left hand, but that's definitely an improvement from before. And my fingers hurt slightly because I was trying too hard.

Well there you go, this thread has just helped me learn how to snap (my fingers).
