Mestiko?

So, I just finished reading the Mere Anarchy collection. A very well-told set of stories, that certainly has me invested in the eventual fate of Mestiko and it's Payav inhabitants.

Is there any information to be dredged out of any authorial types as to whether they've become Federation members by 2380 - or even how they fared after Destiny?

Inquiring minds want to know.

There is a Payav engineer serving aboard the Enterprise in Losing the Peace. And, I purposely avoided saying anything about the fate of Mestiko itself following the invasion.

Ooooh, I remember asking the exact same thing a while back. :) I too was concerned about Mestiko post-Destiny, since it's situated near the triborder. If you search for that thread, you'll see we had quite a discussion about its chances .

Ah, thank you. I hadn't recalled it since I read Losing the Peace far before Mere Anarchy, so it didn't register. Cool beans, though.

I did find the other thread - but it was six months old and I didn't want to necro.

It was a very quick, easy-to-miss walk-on part. And, FWIW, there was also an appearance by a Payav starbase security officer in Slings and Arrows: The Insolence of Office (which is, of course, pre-Destiny).

I don't know that I want to know what happened to Mestiko in the 24th century. As I wrote when I reviewed the book:
My knee-jerk reaction was to wonder how the planet had ended up a century later, but then I realized that any such followup would be hollow. So much of this excellent book is defined by the planet's relationship with the original Enterprise crew, as embodied in Kirk and Raya, that a story about the planet without any of those characters would just be disappointing; Keith DeCandido and his crack team of writers just did their jobs too well here.
Maybe maybe if it was a story with some TOS characters (Scotty returns to Mestiko?), but as it is, I think the planet's story should end when TOS's does.

It would be nice to know, but only if it serves a story and not just because. Like if the Enterprise were checking up on triborder worlds and found it.
