R2D2 Cameo finally found? (with pic)

Man, I can't wait until Christmas!!!!!!! Gah!!!!!

Anyway, I'm pleased to see that this is yet another fake/real debate featuring a Senator Vreenak cameo. :p

It's about as obvious as the Millennium Falcon showing up in ST:FC, which is to say not very obvious.

Yeah, it took me several attempts to find the MF in the background of the Borg cube battle even AFTER I was told the general location to look.

I thought it was fake at first too, it feels like a real find when you see it yourself. I saw it shit loads of times and didn't once see it, it doesn't help that you're focusing on the HUGE ass ship.

Guess I'll be spending my evening looking for these things now, as opposed to being productive and doing laundry and such! Ah well!

i had a really hard time finding R2, it moves right by you so quickly. And in the photos it appears much lighter than in the movie, making it harder to spot.

I have to say, i love stuff like this though, even though we ARE talking about a dreaded Star Wars thing being in a trek movie...

Now I'm curious as to why R2 was chosen for the cameo. Does anyone know?

C3PO was asking for too much money.

Total money whore.

And drama queen. Emphasis on the latter.:shifty:

And LO! did cooleddie move smoothly from robotic drama queens to something clearly more at home in specialist magazines for the discerning robo-connoisseur, as is his wont...

:D

:D

I was given the gift. I abuse it.:techman:

I finally caught it now that I know when and where to look... however, I would hardly call it a cameo. It is less, "Oh look, there's R2-D2!" and more, "Oh look, there's a fast white object flying across the screen that I now know to be R2-D2!"

It was part of a contest... The first one to catch it won some Star Trek loot or something..

I heard some kid actually spotted it first.. :)
There was indeed a "Find R2D2" contest run on the movie's Facebook page. I don't know that the choice of that particular droid for a cameo and the contest necessarily had anything directly to do with each other.

This kind of in-joke or cameo has become pretty common among filmmakers of the Lucas/Spielberg vintage and younger, and is almost de rigeur in science fiction-flavored action/adventure movies made by same. All sorts of sight gags referencing other movies by other directors have a way of turning up for just a moment in the background or on edge of frame or on a bridge station display screen.

LucasFilm does the CGI and they tend to have models lying around that they throw in. I think the Enterprise was in all 3 Star Wars in the Coruscant background, really hard to spot like the Falcon in FC to the point where it looks like another ship.
