Aw, crud! Margaret Clark is gone now, too.

^ He is actually your woman, as Jaime is most definitely a "she." :)

Either way, if this is correct I must get round to dropping her an email - I do still want to properly pitch Planet Of The Tribbles one of these days...

ETA- oh, and indeed she's invited me to pitch some more ideas, so I will.

I at this moment see the ground open and myself dissappear in it. Or so I hope....

^The lack of interest in an ExM followup was a matter of sales, not editorial preference. I think Marco would've been happy to do more, but he couldn't convince the sales department that it would be profitable.

Still, I'm ready to do more if the opportunity ever arises.

Is it possible that the new film has rejuvenated interested in both TOS and nuTOS? Perhaps the sales department might be willing to give it another shot, and if the book sells well, you might get your series. Is it not worth a shot?

Like I said, I'm willing if they are. But you seemed to be linking the lack of a followup to the former editorial regime, and that's just completely untrue.

Sort of tangentially on-topic, does anybody know if Marco has found regular work? Not being nosy, just wanted to know if he was OK.

That was not my intention.

With the new film out there would likely be more people interested in the twenty-third century, both the old version and the new version. I would think that by giving a shot at the nuTOS books which will obviously appeal to new fans, there may also be a market to get said new fans interested in the old TOS books, and Ex Machina is a shining example of what can be done with the characters in the post-TMP period.

Pocket could easily hedge their bets and gamble on both sides of the TOS coin. Worst ways, your second post-TMP book doesn't sell well enough to warrant further books but you and the readers still win, even if Pocket doesn't. If it does sell well enough, everyone's a winner.

I've still no idea who we're actually supposed to pitch stuff *to* nowadays...
The magic name today is...... (sounds of drums....)
Jaime Costas

She still seems rather busy setting things setup etc, but she is your woman!

Glad to hear Margaret is back for the SOTL as well! :)
Thanks for mentioning this, regardless of how you came upon the information...it's good to know who's in the editorial chair now. :)

You'd never get that one past the marketing team.

More likely: a novel set in a different era that features an extensive flashback to TMP's era.

My local paper had an engagement announcement a few years ago for a woman with the last name Swallows, marrying a fellow named Cox. True story, I swear.

In standard format, they printed her photograph, under the headline

SWALLOWS - COX
There is nothing better than this. Nothing.

And then there was the convention that advertised a retrospective on the works of Philip K. Dick with signs pointing the way to the "Dick Appreciation Panel."

Whose panel, oddly enough, consisted only of Peter David and Harlan Ellison.

I hope there is an opportunity. More 2nd FYM stories, please!
