Thanks. I like the look of the game and I like that some of the retro ship models have been incorporated as well. The customization with the various ship systems, as well as crew, looks pretty good too. I'm not too hot about using shuttles for boarding parties as it defeats the whole purpose a transporter.

On to what I don't like. I don't like the not too subtle swipes at those who are interested in a player crew experience. That's the second time I've heard them say something about '"being in engineering pressing buttons." If player crews are outside the direction the game's development took then just say that. But don't dismiss the desires of some to take on roles other than that of captain as button pressing. It's a computer game. What else is there to do but press buttons?

When you look at the boxart, do you think "Wow, that game looks like fun!" or do you think "Wow, look at them whore the license they got!"

Though I am actually shocked that it's not a woman in a bikini holding that crappy looking phaser.

Having another look at it I can't believe the Klingons aren't more prominent instead of shoved well into the background. The game is about playing as the Feds of the Klingon faction. Maybe they'll do a "Klingon cover" box as well to be fair, like how Warcaft II had box art for each major faction.

The cover reminds me of many things, but Star Trek is not one of them.

Damn it, Trek BBS. I purposefully steer clear of MMORPGs because I know what they'll do to me, but now you've gone and got me drooling over what appears to be an awesome game that I may be unable to resist.

I notice that one ship had separated it's saucer section. Does anyone know how would works? Would each section be independently controllable by the player? How much of an advantage does this bestow?

I'd imagine that since transporters don't work through shields, they'd be unusable until the shields are down and you're pummelling the hull, which seems a bit pointless.

    In total agreement with this.

The way I understood it, it's supposed to work like Pets do in other MMOs.
Meaning, once you've seperated your ship (e.g the Prometheus), you'll get additional action bars with which you control and steer the seperated parts.

Works the same with the fighters from the Klingon carrier.

^ The STO site has a few ship specs and a list of ships (mostly Federation) ships that are available during the game.

Sorry if this has been asked earlier in the thread (I stopped reading every post after page 5 or 6...) but does anyone know when STO might be released for platforms other than a PC? I have a Macbook. :( I wouldn't mind getting an Xbox...
