Did this movie make Star Trek "cool"?

I now know several teenagers who never saw Trek prior to this movie
And on the flipside, I am aware of no-one who has gone on to be a Trek fan outside of watching the film a few months ago and kinda liking it.

I don't even know anybody who has bought the DVD.

Rest assured, they are, whether you wish it or not.

Truth. Star Trek has infected my kid's class thanks to STXI.

I never said they weren't? I just provided anecdotal evidence in the face of anecdotal evidence. I can even say that a pal o'mine who works full time in HMV has said that the DVD hasn't sold very well. I know that people are buying it though.

I don't actually care how it sells. In fact, I guess I favour it selling well as at least then they'll get another crack of the Star Trek whip.

A lot of my friends, people who never liked Star Trek are now asking me to borrow some of my collection to watch. I just hope I get them all back. I loved the movie personally, it was funny as hell to anyone who followed TOS, and Spock giving the regular intro at the end gave me chills up my spine-like it would any true fan. A lot of the younger crowd likes it due to the non-stop action of the movie, fights, explosions and getting chased by large disgruntled space critters. Also the graphics can finally live up to the space battles, which is something that I loved about the movie, and really helps the CG raised youth get into it-they have no time for model ships moved around on strings. It's a huge hit all around-longtime fans and new ones.

In what way?

Their hands have swollen into balloons and they all have numb tongue. Happy?
No, not really. I would have liked a reasoned response as to how an interest in Star Trek had manifested itself upon the kids in your classroom. Is it t-shirts? Playing as Kirk and Spock? Toys? Watching the TV shows?

I was actually genuinely interested, but nevermind.

He says they look like "flying pancakes". I don't see it. ;)

What about flying urinal cakes?

Ha!! That's great. Saw that on Mojo's blog. It looks like the work of Darren Dochterman. ;)
