"Twenty-ten" or "Two-Thousand Ten"?

Nardpuncher

Rear Admiral
How will you call it when it's 2010?
I'm going "twenty-ten" as it's what Im used to from the 1900s, and we've had 10 years of "two thousand" at the front, so why not change back.

Though I'm pretty sure around the media and all we'll hear a mix of the two.

I think the movie "2012" is testing the waters with the media on the subject. I've heard mostly "twenty-twelve" so far.

As for me, I'm a big fan of "twenty-ten" and I think the media will use this version the most. Hopefully, anyway. :)

I have alway referred to the movie 2010 as 'two thousand and ten" since it was released in in 1984 so I guess I will do that now that the year is actually here.

In "Back to the Future, Part II," Doc Brown says their in the year Twenty Fifteen. That man practically raised me, so therefore I'll be saying Twenty Ten.

I'm making the advance to "twenty-ten" and indeed, I think the movie "2012" has really helped push that into peoples minds.

The years of "two-thousand-such" are over. Back to the way it was in the 20th century.

Wow.

We're 10 years into the 21st century. Wicked weird.

Twenty-Ten for me. Two Thousand and Ten is just so long... And yeah, 2012 does help push that into people's minds. Especially being so close to the start of 2010.

This controversy will last exactly one year. I can't imagine that anyone will actually advocate calling 2011 "two thousand eleven". That's six syllables! Way too unwieldy. Everyone will call 2011 "twenty eleven", and it'll then be twenty-xx for the rest of the century.

The only reason we did "two thousand" is because it was a new millenium. More significant that just a new century, cf, nineteen hundred, or twenty-one hundred.

We've carried that two thousand through these first ten years, but we should return to the twenty-xx format next year.

I say it both ways, but I'm sure I'll end up going with whatever the majority decides just because that's what I'll hear all the time. I predict that will be "twenty-ten."

Yeah, I'd agree on both counts. Perhaps there should be some special Oscar for 2012 to thank them for this service. :D
