^ Guess what: there are ten reported cases around the world of resistent inlfuenza strains. Usually these strains prove to be less virulent than their non-mutated buddies, atleast in the beginning. When they get more virulent again, it's time to take out the water bottles and mouth caps and start collecting weapons to kill all those zombies.

depends on the area, I suppose. The Tamiflu isn't an over-the-counter drug, so you'd have to convince the Dr to perscribe it for you without seeing you, if you want to avoid coming in.

I think here in the UK you simply call the Swine Flu hotline, tell them your symptoms and they immediately dispatch the Tamiflu tabs.

Well, bro and I got our shots on Wednesday. We where able to get some since we're both in the "risk zone". Him because he's an asthmatic, and me because I'm overweight. Our shoulders have yet to stop hurting, but worst was yesterday evening when we basically had a small version of the flu. Luckily it's way better today.

Am I the only one slightly worried that the vaccine in itself or with the flu could be mutating people into Zombies and that's why the Ukraine is actually covering up?

I'm going to let you in on a little secret that the main stream media wont tell you about. Back in August a microbiologist phoned a radio station saying that he believed the vaccine companies were creating a biological weapon in the Ukraine using the H1N1 virus in order to create a pandemic, a mere week or so later the guy was surrounded whilst in his car with armed police and had tear gas thrown into his car. He was arrested because he had supposedly called up the white house threatening that he was going to bomb it. The entire arrest scene was caught on video and the main stream news reported the whole thing except of course who he was and what he had previously said.
2/3 months later there's an epidemic in the Ukraine, the number of confirmed cases have hit the roof and it's spreading.

Coincidence? perhaps, but it's up to you to decide and if you want to know more feel free to research for yourself.

Making a statement which is shown to be false, and then backing it up with "i'm not paying attention. Or caring" doesn't make for much of an argument, though.

I've shown numbers that about a thousand people have died of H1N1 this year, whereas the seasonal flu has killed MANY times that number already. Hell, just a random search in google finds a CNN article from April saying that the seasonal flu had killed more than 13,000 since January. If you're keeping track, that's 13x the total number of H1N1 deaths for the whole year, and that's just the stat for January through April. I'm sure I could keep digging and find an accurate number to date, but it's already enough to make your assertations look pretty silly.

If you can't pay attention, or care, perhaps more bedrest and less spreading of false information would be in order?

I like how they're all in "uniform", but the skirt lengths are quite varied and the shoes look like whatever they pulled out of their closets that had high heels.

What does this have to do with the situation at hand?

When they send the Army in to quell the civil disorder caused by swine flu, those ladies will be making home visits. Almost makes you want to spike a fever, right?

The numbers I used were for the USA alone, as that's the stat we were talking about. That website may be out of date, as well, as it only shows 140 H1N1 deaths in the US...

Well, I don't think the panic is necessarily just about the numbers. H1N1 has a deadly pedigree, having been responsible for the deadliest pandemic in human history when it was known as the spanish flu. It was particularly deadly because people with strong immune systems were more likely to die than those with weak ones.

And again with the hyperbole, what is it with everything these days having to be the "best X ever" or "greatest X of all time"?

Spanish Flu was definitely a bad one, yes. But no love for the Black Plague? The Plague killed over 25% of the population when it hit. That one's had a couple of big outbreaks, and gets much bigger numbers. Its biggest killing sprees are in the past, so doesn't get the latest hype, but was much worse. A related strain hit Constantinople in 540 AD, and killed over half the city (imagine if they had the ability to travel greater distances! Isolation of population centers is all that prevented some of the ancient pandemics from going world-wide).

Don't forget Smallpox and Cholera, they're getting short-changed by calling H1N1 the "Deadliest pandemic in human history."

When Smallpox hit North America, it killed 90-95% of the native population. Not too shabby. It got 60 million Europeans in the 1700s, and according to WHO, has killed about 300 million in the last 100 years or so.

Cholera had a big outbreak in the 1800s, killing millions on each continent (India lost upwards of 40 million alone). Kills in about 4 hours after contracting it, and has more to do with contamination than with being communicable, which is probably all that prevented it from being a bigger killer.

H1N1 (1918 variant) was certainly a bad thing, and combined with the WWI war losses really did a number on population numbers, but we've had worse. And to compare the 2009 strain and imply similar threats is fear mongering at best. It's certainly more dangerous than the regular flu, but pretty much everyone that has died has had SOME sort of underlying issue, it's not just wiping out everyone. Heck, I had it a few weeks ago, and managed to come through just fine. Unless you're already compromised somehow, it's pretty much the same as the regular flu...
